HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 2014.11.19 - 21598MISCELLANEOUS RESOLUTION #14262 November 19, 2014 BY: PLANNING AND BUILDING COMMITTEE, JIM RUNESTAD, CHAIRPERSON IN RE: PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION — CHRYSLER FOUNDATION - 2014 MOTOR CITIZENS GRANT ACCEPTANCE To the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS, the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission has been notified of the award of a 2014 Motor Citizens Grant in the amount of $500 from the Chrysler Foundation; and WHEREAS, the grant was made in recognition of volunteer services performed by Chrysler employees at Independence Oaks in August 2014; and WHEREAS, the grant was not made for a specific project or program but will be used as general support. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners authorizes and accepts the 2014 Motor Citizens grant award in the amount of $500 from the Chrysler Foundation. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners authorizes the Board's Chairperson, or his designee, to execute the grant agreement. Chairperson, on behalf of the Planning and Building Committee, I move the adoption of the foregoing resolution. Because Chrysler will be donating funds it may be considered a charitable donation to Oakland County Parks and Recreation to section 170(c) of the internal Revenue Code. Stencil, Executive Officer Melissa Prowse, Business Development Representative Submitted: September 24, 2014 Subject: Chrysler Foundation Grant Acceptance INTRODUCTION AND HISTORY in August 2014 a group of Chrysler employees held a volunteer service day at independence Oaks with the goal of improving habitat for the Blanding's Turtle (which is a species of concern). The group spent the day removing bittersweet, autumn olive and other invasive species to improve wildlife habitat at the park. In recognition of this day of service, the Chrysler Foundation has awarded Oakland County Parks and Recreation with a $500 grant. Oakland County Parks and Recreation did not apply for this grant, but was notified of its award in early September. No specific project was identified as the target of these grant funds, which will be treated as a general contribution to Oakland County Parks and Recreation.
