HomeMy WebLinkAboutElection Canvasses - 2003.11.04 - 2162SFLD CITY CLERK OAK COUNTY ELEC e002 J.1/12/2003 10:08 FAX 248+798+5155 REGULAR MEETING OF TEE BOARD OF CANVASSERS , CITY OF SOUTHFIELD ' COUNTY OF OAKLAND, MICHIGAN November 6, 2003 The Regular Meeting of the Board of Canvassers convened at 8:00 p.m. on November 6, 2003 in the Council Conference Room, 26000 Evergreen Road, Southfield, Michigan, to canvas the results of the General Election held November 4, 2003. PRESENT: Mary Kathryn DeCuir Charles Kleinbrook Sylvia S. Stem Linnie M. Taylor ABSENT: None A motion was offered by Stem and supported by DeCuir that Taylor elected Chairman of the Meeting of the Board of Canvassers. Motion was adopted. WHEREAS, at the General Election duly called and held in the City of Southfield, County of Oakland, Michigan, on Tuesday, November 4, 2003 between the hours of 700 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, pursuant to the provisions of Act 239, Public Acts of 1970 as =ended on September 15, 1981, the candidates wh.ose names appear hereafter and the charter amendments were presented on the ballot at said General City Election; and; WHEREAS, the votes cast at said election have been filed in the office of the City Clerk and have been presented and examined by the Board of Canvassers; NOW, 'THEREFORE, BE rr RESOLVED that the Board of Canvassers hereby determines that the votes cast for the candidates and charter amendments at the said General Election held on November 4, 2003 were as follows: CITY COU*CIL -Regular Term Myron Frasier 4,896 Joan Seymour 4,556 Sylvia Jordan 4,642 Demetria J. Fracassi CHARTER AMENDMENT "A" Shall Section 3.11 of the City Charter he amended to provide that the Board of Canvassers shall meet on the Thursday following a primary election to canvass the results thereof at a time to be set by the Clerk, ratherthan at the currently required time of 8:00 p.m. CHARTER AMENDMENT "B" • Shall Section 3.23 of the City Charter be amended to provide that the Board of Canvassers shall meet on the Thursday following any regular or special election to canvass the results thereof at a time to be set by the Clerk, rather than at the currently required time of 8:00 p.m. Yes No Yes No • 1,-. of\ Ow/IL- Nancy L. Ban', CMC City Clerk Novenber 6, 2003 Date 1n11.M. :11/12/2003 10:08 FAX 248+796+5155 SFLD CITY CLERK 4 OAK COUNTY ELEC 121004 • CHARTER AMENDMENT "C" Shall Section 6.1(c) of the City Charter be amended to provide that the City Administrator may appoint a Deputy City Administrator with the consent of the City Council who, in case of a vacancy in the office of the City Administrator or the inability to perform the duties of the office by reason of sickness, absence from the city, or other cause, shall possess all the powers and authority of the City Administrator. CHARTER AMENDMENT 9)" Shall Section 6.5(a) of the City Charter be amended to provide that the City Council shall appoint an alternate member to the Civil Service Commission for a six (6) year term with the initial term of office commencing on February 1, 2004, who shall serve in the place of a-regular member who is absent CHARTER AMENDMENT "E" Shall Section 6.5(f) of the City Charter which provides that any classified employee who shall be. promoted to an unclassified position may be granted a leave by the civil service commission for a specified period of time • with the right to return to a classified position of equal status be amended to provide that such leave shall not exceed a period of six (6) months. TOTAL VOTES CAST: 8,240 A motion was made by Charles 1Cleinbrook and seconded by Sylvia S. Stern to accept the vote totals as tabulated.. A motion was made and seconded to adjourn and the meeting was adjomned at 1.1:05 p.m. r • 1, Nancy L.M.
