REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF CANVASSERS
CITY OF SOUTHFIELD
COUNTY OF OAKLAND, MICHIGAN
November 10, 2005
The Regular Meeting of the Board of Canvassers convened at 6:10 p.m. on November 10, 2005 in the
Council Conference Room, 26000 Evergreen Road, Southfield, Michigan, to canvas the results of the
Municipal General Election held November 8, 2005.
PRESENT: Mary Kathryn DeCuir
Ann Malzberg
Sylvia S. Stem
ABSENT: Charles Kleinbrook
A motion was offered by Stem and supported by Malzberg
that DeCuir elected Chairman of the Meeting of the Board of Canvassers.
Motion was adopted.
WHEREAS, at the Municipal General Election duly called and held in the City of Southfield, County
of Oakland, State of Michigan on Tuesday, November 8, 2005 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00
p.m., Eastern Standard Time, pursuant to the provisions of Act 239, Public Acts of 1970 as amended
on September 15, 1981, the candidates whose names appear hereafter were presented on the ballot at
said Municipal General Election, and;
WHEREAS, the votes cast at said election have been filed in the office of the City Clerk and have been
presented and examined by the Board of Canvassers;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Canvassers hereby determines that the
votes cast for the candidates and charter amendments at the said Municipal General Election held on
November 8, 2005 were as follows:

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Canvassers further determines that the
following candidates and amendments were elected and approved on the November 8, 2005 Municipal
General Election Ballot:

Charter Amendment "A"
Shall Section 5.3 (b) of the City Charter which provides, in part, that no person shall be eligible for any
city office or employment who has been convicted of violating any provision of the election laws of
the state or of the city, or who has been convicted, as an adult, of a felony, or of any offense involving
a violation of his oath of office be amended to require that a criminal history background check be
conducted to determine if a person is ineligible for any city office or employment pursuant to that
section.
Charter Amendment "B"
Shall Section 6.7 (b) of the City Charter be amended, in part; to repeal the following language
contained therein which relates to the powers of the fire chief:
"he, or any of his authorized subordinates may command any person present at a fire to aid in the
extinguishment thereof and to assist in the protection of life and property. If any person willfully
disobeys any such lawful requirement, he shall be deemed guilty of a violation of this charter."
TOTAL VOTES CAST: 13,817
A motion was made by Malzberg and seconded by Stern to accept the vote totals as tabulated. A
motion was made and seconded to adjourn and the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
I, Nancy L. M. Banks, the duly elected and qualified City Clerk of the City of Southfield, do hereby
certify that the foregoing is a true and complete copy of a resolution adopted by the Board of
Canvassers at their meeting of November 10, 2005.
