CHARTER AMENDMENT PROPOSAL No.
Walled Lake City Charter Section 3.9 states the deadline for filing petitions for elective City offices
filled at City general elections is the seventh Tuesday before the general City election. Michigan
election law requires filing of petitions for elective City offices by the twelfth Tuesday before the
general election. This amendment to section 3.9 acknowledges the statutory deadline for filing
petitions for City elective offices filled at general City elections.

Walled Lake City Charter Section 5.1 precludes appointment of elected city officers to appointive
city offices. This amendment allows for appointment of one (1) elected city official to each of the
following appointive boards and commissions: (1) Planning Commission; (2) Zoning Board of
Appeals, and; (3) Parks and Recreation Commission as allowed, authorized or permitted by state
law.

tern. The proposed amendment adds provisions to this section that when no incumbent with two
years prior Walled Lake City Council experience is re-elected at the most recent election, the 10 'A
Councilperson selected by majority vote of Council shall become Mayor Pro-tern.
