These provisions, superseded by state election law changes, previously govern appointment by the City Council of representatives (Supervisors) on the County Board of Supervisors (now called County Board of Commissioners). The county is now divided into commissioner districts, each of which elects a member of the County Board of Commissioners. Courts have upheld one year residency requirements for elective office. This Amendment would reduce the local residency requirement in Section 5.1 from two years to one year. Shall the two year City residency requirement for elective offices set forth in Section 5.1 of the Walled Lake City Charter be reduced from two years to one year? Residency requirements for paid members of a City Board or Commission are no longer enforceable due to changes in state law.
