HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 2018.04.19 - 23404REQUESTING SUSPENSION OF THE BOARD RULES FOR IMMEDIATE CONSIDERATION UNDER NEW BUSINESS MISCELLANEOUS RESOLUTION #18104 BY: Commissioners Bill Dwyer, District #14; Marcia Gershenson, District #13; Hugh Crawford, District #9; Shelley Taub, District #12; Wade Fleming, District #16; Bob Hoffman, District #2; Miphael SDiSZ, District #3; Tom Berman, District #5; Gary McGillivray, District #20; and Helaine Zack, District #18 44 --(f C-4 acte:_scAn IN RE: BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS - RECOGNITION OF MAY 15, 2018 AS PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAY AND MAY 13— 19, 2018 AS NATIONAL POLICE WEEK To the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS Congress and the President of the United States have designated May 15 as Peace Officers' Memorial Day, and the week in which May 16 falls as National Police week; and WHEREAS this time is to pay special recognition to the fallen law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others; and WHEREAS the men and women of the Oakland County Sheriffs Office and the following local law enforcement agencies in Oakland County: Auburn Hills Police Department Birmingham Police Department Bloomfield Township Police Department Clawson Police Department Franklin/Bingham Farms Police Department Ferndale Police Department Holly Village Police Department Keego Harbor Police Department Lake Orion Village Police Department Madison Heights Police Department Northville Police Department Oakland University Police Department Orchard Lake Village Police Department Oxford Village Police Department Rochester Police Department South Lyon Police Department Troy Police Department Walled Lake Police Department West Bloomfield Township Police Depart. Wixom Police Department Berkley Public Safety Department Beverly Hills Public Safety Department Bloomfield Hills Public Safety Department Farmington Public Safety Department Farmington Hills Police Department Hazel Park Police Department Huntington Woods Public Safety Department Lake Angelus Police Department Lathrup Village Police Department Milford Police Department Novi Police Department Oak Park Public Safety Department Oakland Community College Dept. of Public Safety Pleasant Ridge Police Department Royal Oak Police Department Southfield Police Department Sylvan Lake Police Department Waterford Township Police Department White Lake Township Police Department Wolverine Lake Village Police Department are to be recognized for providing a vital public service in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of the communities in Oakland County, knowing what the ultimate sacrifice is; and WHEREAS it is important that all citizens know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices of their law enforcement agency; and WHEREAS members of the Oakland County Sheriffs Office and all Oakland County police agencies are committed to serve the people by safeguarding life and property by protecting them against violence and disorder, and by protecting the innocent against deception and the weak against oppression. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners call on all citizens of Oakland County and on all patriotic, civic and educational organizations to observe the week of May 13 - 19, 2018 as Police Week with appropriate ceremonies and observances in which all people may join in commemorating law enforcement officers, past and present, who, by their faithful and loyal devotion to their responsibilities, have rendered a dedicated service to their communities and, in so doing, have established for themselves an enviable and enduring reputation for preserving the rights and security of all citizens. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED to call on all citizens of Oakland County to observe Tuesday, May 15, 2018 as Peace Officers' Memorial Day in honor of those law enforcement officers who, through their courageous deeds, have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community or have become disabled in the performance of duty, and let us recognize and pay respect to the survivors of our fallen heroes.
