MISC. RES #95162
BY: Commissioner John Garfield
RE:(Oppose)SB256 and 5E257-Revision to Soldiers Relief Commission
TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Chairp=!rson, Ladies and Gentlemen:
Whereas, Public Act 214 of 1899 mandates that each county in
Michigan have a Soldiers Relief Commission, and
Whereas, presently the Soldiers Relief Commissions are required
to annually submit a report of expenditures and activities to
their respective Board of Commissioners, and
Whereas, Senate Bill 256 proposes that Public Act 214 of 1899 be
amended to require the annual report also be sent to the Board of
Trustees of the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund, a State agency, and
its companion bill, SB 257, changes the reporting standards and
criteria, and
Whereas, there is no State funding for this change in the
mandates upon the counties.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED the Board of Commissioners for the
County of Oakland opposes the passage of SB 256 and S2 257, as
unfunded mandates, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to
all Oakland County legislators, the Michigan Association of
Counties, and Oakland County's legislative liaison personnel.
Chairman, I move the adoption of the foregoing resolution.
