HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 1996.04.03 - 24648APRIL 4, 1996 REPORT (Misc. #95055) BY: GENERAL GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE - KAY SCHMID, CHAIRPERSON IN RE: M.R. #96055, BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS—PUBLICATION OF AGENDA TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS: Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen: The General Government Committee, having reviewed M.R. #96055, reports with the recommendation that the resolution be adopted with an amendment to the NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED paragraph, with a new line 3, as follows: --Commissioners' Meetings be sent to all cable television companies with a request that they be published in all local outlets.-- and amending the remaining language of that paragraph into a new BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED paragraph as follows: --BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Board of Commis- sioners requests the County Clerk, in conjunction with the County Executive's Media and Communica- tions Director, to execute this public service.-- Chairperson, on behalf of the General Government Committee, I move the acceptance of the foregoing Report. • GENERAL GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE omas A. Moffitt In Re: Board of Commissioners—Publication of Agenda To the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS, the County of Oakland operates under the Freedom of Inforniation Act (FOIA). 1976 Public Act 442, which declares that, 'It is the policy of this State that all persons_are entitled to full and complete information regarding the affairs of government and the official acts of those who represent them as public officials and public employees...so that they may fully participate in the democratic process."; and WHEREAS, the County of Oakland operates under the Open Meetings Act, 1976 Public Act 267, as amended, which strengthens the right of citizens to know what actions are being taken by their government; and WHEREAS, the principals of democratic representation are most manifest at the local level of government, and WHEREAS, the government of the County of Oakland can work best for its citizens when those citizens are informed and involved in the decisions of its government NOW TIJEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners does hereby direct that the agendas of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners' Meetings he published by all cable television companies, and requests that the County Clerk, in conjunction with the County Executive's Media and Communication Director, execute this public service. Chairman, we move the adoption of the foregoing resolution, Resolution #96055 April 4, 1996 Moved by Schmid supported by Huntoon the General Government Committee Report be accepted. A sufficient majority having voted therefor, the report was accepted. Moved by Schmid supported by Huntoon the resolution be adopted. Moved by Schmid supported by Moffitt the resolution be amended to coincide with the recommendation in the General Government Committee Report. A sufficient majority having voted therefor, the amendment carried.
