IN RE: Return of the Millage Reduction and Stabilization Fund Balance to the
Citizens of Oakland County
To the Oakland County Board of Commissioners
Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen:
WHEREAS the Oakland County Board of Commissioners, by Miscellaneous
Resolution #95265, created the Millage Reduction and Stabilization Fund on
December 7, 1995, and;
WHEREAS it was the intent of the Board of Commissioners to use any funds
collected in that fund for the sole purpose of reducing the millage
assessments in Oakland County, and;
WHEREAS the false impression has been given that this fund's monies
could be used for other needs, and;
WHEREAS it is the desire of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners to
ensure that this fund is used only for the purpose originally intended, and;
WHEREAS a one-time millage credit of .12 mills would return to the
citizens of Oakland County the entire $4,375,000.00 contained in the Millage
Reduction and Stabilization Fund, and;
WHEREAS it is expressly understood that this return of funds to the
citizens of Oakland County will affect the millage rate for the December 1997
tax bill only.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of
Commissioners does hereby approve and authorize the appropriate millage
reduction, for the December 1997 tax bill only, necessary to accomplish the
return of the entire balance of the Millage Reduction and Stabilization Fund.
