Millard, District #4 IN RE: CREATION OF THE FY 1999 OAKLAND COUNTY ADVISORY BOARD FOR THE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT To the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS the U.S. Department of Justice has notified Oakland County that the U.S. Bureau of Justice Assistance is obligating $178,923 in formula block grant funding for local law enforcement under the Omnibus Fiscal Year 1999 Appropriations Act; and WHEREAS the purpose of the formula block grant funding is to assist in reducing crime and improving public safety; and WHEREAS one of the federal requirements needed for receiving the grant funding is the creation of an Oakland County Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Advisory Board representing recognized interests in criminal justice and crime/substance abuse prevention and treatment; and WHEREAS the sole purpose of the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Advisory Board is for making a non-binding recommendation of the project submitted for funding to the U.S. Department of Justice; and WHEREAS the grant guidelines were released on July 22, 1999, with the grant application due September 2, 1999, thereby creating the necessity for the Advisory Board to meet as soon as possible; and WHEREAS in past years the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Advisory Board was composed of representatives from the Oakland County's Circuit Court, Sheriff's Department, Prosecutor's Office, Community Corrections Division, Management and Budget Department, and Human Services Department. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that, in order to meet the requirements of the U.S. Department of Justice grant release, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners hereby creates a Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Advisory Board for the sole purpose of making a non-binding recommendation of the project to be submitted for funding to the U.S. Department of Justice. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Local'Law Enforcement Block Grant Advisory Board shall be composed of one representative each from the Circuit Court, Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, Department of Management and Budget, Community Corrections Division, Depar tutent of Human Services, the Sheriff's Department and two representatives from the Board of Commissioners, and that t appointments shall be made by the Board of Commissioners' Chairperson.
