MISCELLANEOUS RESOLUTION #00171

IN RE: DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES/HEALTH DIVISION - GRANT APPLICATION FOR
HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS (HIV) HEPATITIS C VIRUS (HCV) EDUCATION AND RISK-
REDUCTION GRANT
To the Oakland County Board of Commissioners
Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen:
WHEREAS funding is available from the Michigan Department of Community
Health (MDCH) to develop and implement a HIV/HCV education and risk reduction
plan; and
WHEREAS there are 8,000 to 10,000 deaths annually as a result of the HCV
infection; and
WHEREAS the leading cause of liver transplants in the United States is
related to the HCV; and
WHEREAS the high risk target populations for the education sessions are
already accessed through other health services provided at the Oakland County
Sheriff's Department, Children's Village, and various substance abuse treatment
centers; and
WHEREAS funds are being applied for by the Oakland County Health Division
in the amount of $164,015 to develop and implement a HIV/HCV education and risk
reduction plan; and
WHEREAS the creation one (1) Special Revenue FTE Public Health Nurse III
position and one (1) FTE Clerk III position are required to support this program;
and;
WHEREAS application for this grant does not obligate the County to any
future commitment.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of
Commissioners approves the application for funds for the Human Immunodeficiency
Virus (HIV) Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Education and Risk-Reduction Grant in the
amount of $164,015, from the period of January 1, 2001 through December 31, 2001.
Chairperson, on behalf of the General Government Committee, I move the
adoption of the foregoing resolution.

Agenda were adopted with accompanying reports accepted.
