MISCELLANEOUS RESOLUTION #00140

IN RE: DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES/HEALTH DIVISION - GRANT APPLICATION FOR
PRENATAL TRANSPORTATION DEMONSTRATION GRANT PROGRAM
To the Oakland County Board of Commissioners
Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen:
WHEREAS funding is available from the Michigan Department of Community
(MDCH) for the purpose of improving access to care for pregnant, post-partum, and
parenting women and teens, and children up to five years of age who need
transportation to health related appointments; and
WHEREAS babies born to mothers who do not receive prenatal care are three
times more likely to die within the first year of life, and are at significantly
greater risk of suffering permanent disability; and
WHEREAS transportation is cited as one of the most essential services that
will help assure access to health care for maternal and child health; and
WHEREAS funds are being applied for by the Oakland County Health Division
in the amount of $58,200 to improve access to care for this population; and
WHEREAS the Oakland County Health Division will subcontract with the
Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency for the expansion of transportation and
advocacy services into Oakland County; and
WHEREAS no additional personnel are being requested; and
WHEREAS acceptance of this grant does not obligate the County to any
future commitment; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of
Commissioners approves the application for funds for the Prenatal Transportation
Demonstration Grant in the amount of $58,200, from the period of October 1, 2000
through September 30, 2001.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that services associated with this program be
contingent upon continued grant funding at a level sufficient to maintain
the program.
Chairperson, on behalf of the General Government Committee, I move the
adoption of the foregoing resolution.
