IN RE: DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES/CHILDREN'S VILLAGE DIVISION -
"SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE PREVALENCE AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH
SERVICES FOR ADOLESCENT WOMEN IN SPECIAL SETTINGS" GRANT APPLICATION
To the Oakland county Board of Commissioners
Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen:
WHEREAS, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) has announced the availability of FY 2001 supplemental funds "For
Comprehensive STD Prevention Systems: Monitoring STD Prevalence and
Reproductive Health Services for Adolescent Women in Special Settings";
and
WHEREAS the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has
requested Children's Village to conduct the pilot project for the
state, focusing on the intent of the grant; and
WHEREAS the MDCH will use this project to apply for funding from
the CDC; and
WHEREAS Children's Village has identified an at-risk population
of adolescent females within Children's Village; and
WHEREAS Children's Village and the Health Division have worked
collaboratively in identifying at-risk adolescent women in special
settings in addition to juvenile detention, such as the county jail,
teen health centers, community-based youth service programs, and
substance abuse treatment sites; and
WHEREAS funding may be available from the CDC and MDCH to fund
one project within the state of Michigan; and
WHEREAS the funding which may be available to Oakland County
amounts to $125,000; and
WHEREAS acceptance of this grant award does not obligate Oakland
County to future funding; and
WHEREAS this grant will be 100% supported by federal and state
funding.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of
Commissioners approves the submission of this grant application by the
Department of Human Services/Children's Village Division.
Chairperson, on behalf of the General Government Committee, I
move the adoption of the foregoing resolution.
