IN RE: MR #01268 - BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS - SUPPORTING CIVIL
RIGHTS AND CIVIL LIBERTIES OF ALL AMERICANS INCLUDING
ARAB-AMERICANS AND AMERICAN MUSLIMS
To the Oakland County Board of Commissioners
Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen:
The General Government Committee, having reviewed the
above-titled resolution on October 15, 2001, recommends that
the resolution be adopted with the following amendments:
- Amend the title: BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS - SUPPORTING
CIVIL RIGHTS AND CIVIL LIBERTIES OF ALL AMERICANS
INCLUDING ARAB AMERICANS OF ARAB DESCENT AND AMERICAN
MUSLIMS
-Amend third WHEREAS:
WHEREAS the Arab American and American Muslim
communities-7- are a vital part of our nation. Arab Americans OF
ARAB DESCENT AND AMERICAN MUSLIMS are part of the American
success story and have played an important part in building
communities and institutions, especially within the State of
Michigan and Oakland County; and
- Amend the NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that in the quest to
identify and bring to justice the perpetrators and sponsors of
the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11,
2001, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners will promote
and support efforts dedicated to insuring that the civil
rights and civil liberties of all Americans, including Arab
Americans OF ARAB DESCENT and American Muslims, are protected.
- Amend the BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of
Commissioners condemns any acts of violence or discrimination
against any Americans, including Arab Americans OF ARAB
DESCENT and American Muslims.
Chairperson, on behalf of the General Government Committee, I
move acceptance of the foregoing report.

To the Oakland County Board of Commissioners
Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen:
WHEREAS all Americans are united in condemning, in the strongest possible
terms, the terrorists who planned and carried out the attacks against the United
States on September 11, 2001, and in pursuing all those responsible for these
attacks and their sponsors until they are brought to justice; and
WHEREAS as always, Americans have united and stand stronger than ever as
a nation sworn to defend freedom, tolerance, diversity and democracy. Any
terrorists who attempt to extinguish our spirit must know that these are ideals
we Americans will never surrender; and
WHEREAS the Arab American and American Muslim communities, are a vital
part of our nation. Arab Americans OF ARAB DESCENT AND AMERICAN MUSLIMS are part
of the American success story and have played an important part in building
communities and institutions, especially within the State of Michigan and Oakland
County; and
WHEREAS Americans understand that we must not descend to the level of
those who perpetrated senseless violence by targeting individuals based on race,
religion, or national origin.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that in the quest to identify and bring to
justice the perpetrators and sponsors of the terrorist attacks on the United
States on September 11, 2001, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners will
promote and support efforts dedicated to insuring that the civil rights and civil
liberties of all Americans, including Arab Americans. OF ARAB DESCENT and American
Muslims, are protected.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners
condemns any acts of violence or discrimination against any Americans, including
Arab Americans OF ARAB DESCENT and American Muslims.
