CHRYSLER CORPORATION FUND FISCAL YEAR 2002 ARTS, BEATS &
EATS FESTIVAL (ABE) GRANT ACCEPTANCE
TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen:
WHEREAS the Board of Trustees of the Daimler Chrysler Corporation Fund has
awarded the County Executive/Arts, Culture & Film, $150,000, for the 2002 Arts, Beats
& Eats Festival (ABE); and
WHEREAS the Arts, Beats & Eats Festival, one of the premier festival events in
the United States, has taken the motto of "something for everyone," which is exemplified
by the numerous food themes, art media, and music styles attracting more than two
million individuals of all ethnic backgrounds; and
WHEREAS the festival has become the largest free admission community event
in Michigan; and
WHEREAS acceptance of this grant from the Daimler Chrysler Corporation Fund
does not obligate the County to any future commitment.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of
Commissioners accepts from Daimler Chrysler Corporation Fund, a grant in the amount
of $150,000, for the period June 20, 2002, through June 30, 2003.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chairperson of the Oakland County
Board of Commissioners is hereby authorized to execute the grant contract.
Chairperson, on behalf of the General Government Committee, I move adoption
of the foregoing resolution.

Dear Ms. Oswalt:
On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund, I am pleased to
advise you that the Fund approved a grant of $150,000.00 to the Oakland County for the 2002
Arts, Beats, & Eats Festival (ABE).
To receive your approved funding, read the attached Grant Agreement carefully, then sign and
date both copies. Return one copy to the DaimierChrysler Corporation Fund to fax number
248-512-2503 by our June 20th deadline for 2" quarter Grant payments. If we do not receive
a signed copy within this date, your grant will be delayed until the next deadline, September 20 th.
Retain the additional Grant Agreement for your reference and files. Your grant number is 24058;
please refer to this number in all correspondence.
In any public announcement of this grant, credit the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund -- not
DaimlerChrysler Corporation — as the donor. Prior to any media announcement of this grant,
please fax a copy of your proposed press release to the Fund at (248) 512-2503 for review and
approval. The Fund is also interested in receiving any photographs or slides related to this grant
to assist us in fulfilling our public reporting responsibilities.

GRANT AGREEMENT
This grant to Oakland County (grantee) from the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund (the Fund) is for the
explicit purpose(s) described in your request dated February 4, 2002 with exceptions (if any) as noted
below. All grants are made in accordance with current and applicable laws and regulations of the Internal
Revenue Code, as amended. To acknowledge this agreement, to accept the grant, and to receive the
funds, please sign and date both copies of the agreement, and return one of the copies to the
DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund in the enclosed envelope. Please keep the other copy for your reference
and files.

I. Grant Purpose and Conditions
No material benefits or services are to be providedto the Fund in exchange for this grant. This
grant is to be used only for the charitable purpose described in your grant request with the following
exceptions or conditions (if any): None.
This grant will be issued in the organization's legal name. If any expenses charged against this grant
are incurred outside the 6/20/2002 - 6/20/2003 timeframe, DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund must
be informed in writing.
Oakland County is responsible for the expenditure of funds and for maintaining adequate supporting
records consistent with generally accepted accounting practices. If requested by the Fund, your
books and records are to be made available for the Fund's inspection or that of its public
accountants at reasonable times.
The tax-exempt status verified in the grant request, must remain valid throughout the term of the
grant; any change in that status, or change in the organization that could lead to a modification of
that status is .to be reported to the Fund immediately.
Oakland County agrees to repay upon demand to the Fund the amount of the grant if any condition
of this agreement is not upheld.
IL. Public Announcement
Oakland County is expected to acknowledge the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund's support of this
project as appropriate in all announcements and written materials. The Fund requests copies of any
such announcement(s), including newspaper or magazine articles relating to this grant.
In addition, please forward any photographs and other supporting data, when available, to assist the
.fund in fulfilling its own public reporting responsibilities.

Oakland County agrees to provide a final report on this grant and the expenditure of the grant funds
within thirty days after 6/20/2003. •
Failure to provide any required or requested information to the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund
relative to this grant may result in deferral or declination of future grant requests.
IV. Limit of Commitment
Unless otherwise stated in writing, this grant is made with the understanding that the Fund has no
obligation to provide other or additional support to the grantee.

Dear Brian,
Please consider this letter a request for DaimlerChrysler's financial support for the 2002
Chrysler Arts, Beats & Eats Festival (ABE). We are requesting a grant of $150,000.

Thanks in great part to the support of the DaimlerChrysler Fund, ABE has become the
largest free admission community event in Michigan. attracting more than L3 million
attendees last year.
The festival has been a maior initiative of Oakland County to celebrate the outstanding
Quality of Life in our region. Your support has enabled us to offer incredible
programming and services and not charge admission. Furthermore, we have not raised
food and beverage prices since we began the festival in 1998.
ABE has also taken great pride in the diversity of our activities and our guests. Our
festival has taken the motto of "something for everyone," exemplified by our seventeen
food themes, fifteen art mediums, and numerous different music styles. Our festivities
have attracted persons of all ethnic backgrounds, been a favorite of families with
outstanding children's programming, yet reached out to young adults with the best new
music_

In addition, ABE gives an economic and promotional boost to downtown Pontiac. In fact,
the festival's advertising campaign provided in excess of 1.5 million dollars of positive
publicity to both Oakland County and the City of Pontiac. Not only did ABE's large
crowds spend money in the downtown, but also their presence is reassuring to current and
prospective downtown business developments that the right kind of business will work in
downtown Pontiac.

Finally, the festival and its host charity have donated net food and beverage sales to many
worthwhile organizations. In 2001, more than $237,000 was given out. Recipients
included Oakland Family Services, Lighthouse of Oakland County, Orchards Children's
Services, The Rainbow Connection and others. The community was also aided by a sense
of volunteerism, as more than 1000 people donated their time to help support smooth
operations and beverage sales.
Again, we are requesting financial support in the amount of $150,000 for the Chrysler
Arts, Beats & Eats Festival.

for the 2002 Arts, Beats & Eats Festival (ABE).
2. The sum of $150,000 is awarded for redistribution to the Arts,
Beats and Eats (ABE) Festival.
3. No County match or additional positions are required.
4. The acceptance of this grant does not obligate the County to any
future commitment.
