CITY OF FERNDALE
INTER-OFFICE CORRESPONDENCE
TO: Thomas W. Barwin
City Manager
SUBJECT: County Reimbursement
for Infrastructure Project
FROM: Byron A. Photiades
DPW Director
DATE: December 11, 2002
In May of '99, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners established a five-
year Environmental Infrastructure Fund to reimburse its cities, villages and
townships for expenses incurred through September 30, 2004, for eligible
environmental remediation or infrastructure-improvement projects. The
reimbursements are made from an annual county appropriation of $5 million, with
each community receiving a share based on its taxable value. Ferndale's annual
share is $82,327.
The city's five-year total is $411,635. Last year, the city applied for and received
a three-year reimbursement of $245,981, leaving a balance of $164,654 that it can
request this year.
The city is currently undertaking a $260,875 water gate valve and well
replacement project, and has expended to date $193,859. We would like to submit
that expense for reimbursement; it would be credited to the Water/Sewer Fund, to
assist in funding any other infrastructure-improvement projects.
The attached resolution, if adopted, would authorize the city's s reimbursement
request.
