West Nile Virus Mitigation 2004
The City of Northville understands that the threat of the spread of West Nile Virus in
Michigan by mosquitoes is real. Therefore, it has approved a two step program to
address this matter in the Northville community.
1. Education: The City of Northville will take measures to educated residents as to
what individuals can do to minimize their exposure to this virus. The Department
of Public Works will devote significant space in its quarterly publication "Words
from Works" for this specific purpose. In addition the City's web site and access
cable television station will also address this issue.
2. Larvicide Treatment: The City has informed the Michigan Department of
Environment that it is placing methoprene larvicide briquets in each storm water
catch basin. This treatment will last for the duration of the summer and fall
mosquito seasons. Placement has been done in compliance with the provisions of
Part 31, Water Resources Protection, of the Natural Resources and Environmental
Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended (Act 451), R323.1097.
