Environmental Infrastructure Fund Reimbursement Request
Attachment A Project Description
North Shore Bridge Replacement
The land north and south of the North Shore Bridge along the eastern edge of Lake Orion
was platted in 1890. The concrete bridge that spanned a canal that feeds into Lake Orion was
crumbling and chunks of concrete had fallen into the canal. There was a growing concern that the
bridge might fail and completely block the canal.
There was also a concern about stormwater flowing directly into the canal and then into Lake
Orion which is only 113 feet downstream from the bridge. By replacing the bridge, it was possible
to include new stormwater catch basins in the project. These catch basins allow stormwater to be
captured before it gets to the canal or Lake, to have sediment matter settle out, and for much cleaner
water to eventually be released to the canal.
