OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS MINUTES
January 9, 2019 Meeting called to order by Caucus Chairperson Gary McGillivray at 4:05 p.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan. Roll called.
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Gershenson, Jackson, Luebs, Markham, McGillivray, Miller, Nelson, Powell, Woodward, Zack. (10) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: Quarles. (1)
Quorum present.
Moved by Woodward supported by Gershenson the minutes of the December, 6, 2018 Caucus be approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
The Commissioners and other meeting attendees introduced themselves.
The members of the Caucus discussed the order of the items on the Board Agenda. Commissioner Woodward stated that during the recess the Legislative Affairs and Government Operations Committee
would meet in Committee Room A. He informed the Caucus that there would be a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution entitled: Board of Commissioners – Tri-Party Road Improvement Program
Fiscal Year 2019 Appropriation – Charter Township of Springfield – Shoulder Paving on Andersonville Road from Davisburg Road to Northwest Court – Project No, 54661 presented by commissioner Hoffman.
He also stated that Commissioner Jackson would introduce two proposed Miscellaneous Resolutions regarding the Human Trafficking Task Force.
Oakland County Clerk – Register of Deeds Lisa Brown addressed the Caucus regarding the roll call
procedure.
Chairperson Gary McGillivray addressed the Caucus regarding seat assignments.
Commissioner Gershenson addressed the Caucus regarding absences.
Commissioner Jackson addressed the Caucus regarding two proposed Miscellaneous Resolutions she will be introducing entitled: Board of Commissioners – Re-Establishment of the Oakland County Human
Trafficking Task Force, to be referred to the Legislative Affairs and Government Operations Committee and Board of Commissioners – Designation of January 11, 2019 as National Human Trafficking
Awareness Day and January 2019 as Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month in Oakland County. She stated that she will request suspension of the Board Rules for immediate consideration under new business for this Resolution.

Commissioner Jackson addressed the Caucus regarding parliamentary procedure training. Discussion followed.
Chris Ward, Board of Commissioners Administration Director, Program and Operational Analyst addressed the Caucus regarding the Caucus Memo. Discussion followed. Commissioner Gershenson addressed the Caucus regarding Youth in Government Day.
Discussion followed. Chairperson Gary McGillivray addressed the Caucus to introduce new staff member Amy Aubrey, Board
of Commissioners Analyst.
Chris Ward, Board of Commissioners Administration Director, Program and Operational Analyst addressed the Caucus to introduce new staff members Megan Sellers, Committee Coordinator and Brittany Haney-Navetta, Communications and Marketing Assistant.
The Caucus adjourned at 5:37 p.m. until January 24, 2019, at 8:30 a.m.
