HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 2018.11.07 - 31831 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY CANVASSERS CALL TO ORDER: The Board of County Canvassers meeting was called to order by Chairperson Deneweth on November 7, 2018 at 1:00 p.m., in the Elections Division, Board of Canvassers/Training Room, 1st floor, West Wing Extension, 1200 N. Telegraph Rd., Pontiac, MI 48341. ROLL CALL: MEMBERS PRESENT: Copes, Cotton, Deneweth, Harsten-Spann. (4) ABSENT: None. (0) OTHERS PRESENT: Joseph Rozell, Director of Elections APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Moved by COTTON seconded by DENEWETH to approve the agenda. Motion carried. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Moved by DENEWETH seconded by HARSTEN-SPANN to approve the minutes of the September 12, 2018 Board of County Canvassers Meeting. Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS: CANVASS OF VOTES CAST IN THE NOVEMBER 6, 2018 STATE GENERAL ELECTION An original canvass of votes is on file in the County Clerk’s Office. OTHER BUSINESS: Chairperson DENEWETH submitted a petition for additional security in accordance with MCL 168.810a. Moved by DENEWETH seconded by COPES that in accordance with Section 810a of Michigan Election Law, MCL 168.810a, the Board of County Canvassers provide additional security for the following election materials used in the City of Southfield for the November 6, 2018 general election: absent voter ballots, absent voter ballot boxes, absent voter envelopes, absent voter counting board poll books. The additional security provided shall consist of: maintaining the election materials that are subject to this order in the restricted-access, locked training room of the Election Division; requiring the County Director of Elections to provide the necessary security of these materials, including the use of the Sheriff’s Department, if appropriate, to guard the election materials that are subject to this order at all times. I further move that these additional security measures shall remain in place until further order of this Board, or unless requested in writing by the Secretary of State, State Director of Elections, or a law enforcement agency. Motion carried. Moved by DENEWETH seconded by COPES that the Board of County Canvassers now requires the inspectors from the precincts in question (a minimum of three) to appear before the Board of County Canvassers for precincts that are incomplete or incorrect and cannot be resolved by the Board. Letters of explanation will no longer be accepted and unusual events must be documented in the poll book. Any updates to the precinct list will require supporting documentation and the Board of County Canvassers will no longer accept results from provisional envelope ballots by email or fax for manual entry into the Election Management Software. Motion carried. PUBLIC COMMENT: None. Moved by COTTON seconded by DENEWETH that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried.
