HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 2020.08.20 - 33589 OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS MINUTES August 20, 2020 Meeting called to order by Caucus Chairperson Gary McGillivray at 4:35 p.m. via Teleconference. Roll called. COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Gershenson, Jackson, Luebs, Markham, McGillivray, Nelson, Powell, Quarles, Woodward, Zack. (10) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: Miller. (1) Quorum present. No one addressed the Caucus during Public Comment. Moved by Luebs seconded by Nelson the minutes of the July 23, 2020 and August 6, 2020 Caucuses be approved. A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved. The members of the Caucus discussed the Board Agenda. Commissioner Woodward addressed the Caucus regarding the five Motions to Discharge on the Agenda. He stated that he believes all of the motions will be postponed until the next Board of Commissioners meeting. Commissioner Woodward addressed the Caucus regarding three new proposed miscellaneous resolutions entitled: Board of Commissioners – Designating September 11-17, 2020 as Michigan Patriot Week in Oakland County, Board of Commissioners – Commemoration of Centennial Anniversary of the 19th Amendment Ratification – Women’s Equality Day and Board of Commissioners – Designation of September 6-12, 2020 as Suicide Prevention Week in Oakland County. He stated that the sponsors of these resolutions will request Suspension of the Board Rules for Immediate Consideration Under New Business. Commissioner Gershenson addressed the Caucus to inform the Commissioners that her presentation during the Board of Commissioners meeting entitled: Oakland County - Centennial Celebration of the 19th Amendment and Women’s Suffrage will only be about five minutes long. Commissioner Woodward addressed the Caucus regarding a new proposed miscellaneous resolution being introduced by Commissioner Gingell entitled: Board of Commissioners – Free Day-Use Park Admission for Seniors (62 and Over), Military, Veterans, Residents with Permanent Disabilities, First Responders and Healthcare Workers. He also stated that Commissioner Taub will introduce several new proposed miscellaneous resolutions at the Board of Commissioners meeting. Democratic Caucus Minutes Continued. August 20, 2020 564 Discussion followed. Commissioner Woodward addressed the Caucus regarding the Oakland Together Small Business Grant Program. He stated that he would like to see the deadline extended for grant applications. Commissioner Nelson addressed the Caucus to ask when the grant application process will be opened to Senior Centers. Discussion followed. Commissioner Nelson addressed the Caucus regarding a new proposed miscellaneous resolution that she will introduce tonight entitled: Board of Commissioners – Supporting the Child Care is Essential Act. She stated that she will request Suspension of the Board Rules for Immediate Consideration Under New Business. Commissioner Nelson addressed the Caucus to inquire if the School Nurse Initiative places nurses physically in schools. Discussion followed.
