HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 2021.05.13 - 34428MISCELLANEOUS RESOLUTION #21183 May 13, 2021 BY: Commissioners Penny Luebs, District #16 and Charlie Cavell, District #18; Adam Kochenderfer, District #15; Thomas Kuhn, District #11; Christine Long, District #7; Gary McGillivray, District #20; Chuck Moss, District #12; Philip Weipert, District #8; Charlie Cavell, District #18; Yolanda Charles, District #17; Janet Jackson, District #21; Karen Joliet, District #4; Penny Luebs, District #16; Gwen Markham, District #9; William Miller, District #14; Eileen Kowall, District #6; Angela Powell, District #10; David Woodward, District #19; Kristen Nelson, District #5; Michael Gingell, District #1; Marcia Gershenson, District #13; Michael Spisz, District #3; and Bob Hoffman, District #2 IN RE: BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS — RECOGNITION OF MAY 15, 2021 AS PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAY AND MAY 9 — 15, 2021 AS NATIONAL POLICE WEEK To the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS Congress and the President of the United States have designated May 15th as Peace Officers' Memorial Day, and the week in which May 151h falls as National Police Week; and WHEREAS this time is to pay special recognition to the fallen law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others; and WHEREAS the men and women of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office and the following local law enforcement agencies in Oakland County: Auburn Hills Police Department Wolverine Lake Village Police Department Berkley Public Safety Department Birmingham Police Department Beverly Hills Public Safety Department Bloomfield Township Police Department Bloomfield Hills Public Safety Department Clawson Police Department Farmington Public Safety Department Franklin/Bingham Farms Police Department Farmington Hills Police Department Ferndale Police Department Hazel Park Police Department Holly Village Police Department Huntington Woods Public Safety Department Keego Harbor Police Department Lake Angelus Police Department Lake Orion Village Police Department Lathrup Village Police Department Madison Heights Police Department Milford Police Department Northville Police Department Novi Police Department Oakland University Police Department Oak Park Public Safety Department Orchard Lake Village Police Department Oakland Community College Dept. of Public Oxford Village Police Department Safety Rochester Police Department Pleasant Ridge Police Department South Lyon Police Department Royal Oak Police Department Troy Police Department Southfield Police Department Walled Lake Police Department Sylvan Lake Police Department West Bloomfield Township Police Depart. Waterford Township Police Department Wixom Police Department White Lake Township Police Department Michigan State Police (District 2) Huron -Clinton Metropolitan Authority Police Dept. are to be recognized for providing a vital public service in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of the communities in Oakland County, knowing what the ultimate sacrifice is; and WHEREAS it is important that all citizens know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices of their law enforcement agencies; and WHEREAS members of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office and all Oakland County police agencies are committed to serve the people by safeguarding life and property by protecting them against violence and disorder, and by protecting the innocent against deception and the weak against oppression. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners calls on all citizens of Oakland County and all patriotic, civic and educational organizations to observe the week of May 9 -15, 2021, as Police Week with appropriate ceremonies and observances in which all people may join in commemorating law enforcement officers, past and present, who, by their faithful and loyal devotion to their responsibilities, have rendered a dedicated service to their communities and, in so doing, have established for themselves an enviable and enduring reputation for preserving the rights and security of all citizens. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED to call on all citizens of Oakland County to observe Saturday, May 15, 2021, as Peace Officers' Memorial Day in honor of those law enforcement officers who, through their courageous deeds, have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community or have become disabled in the performance of duty, and let us recognize and pay respect to the survivors of our fallen heroes.
