Woodward, District #19 IN RE: BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS —AFFIRMING SUPPORT FOR THE 2021 TRI-COUNTY SUMMIT To the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS in the spirit of regional cooperation, County Commissioners from Oakland, Macomb and Wayne Counties, and the members of the Detroit City Council, held the first Tri-County Summit in May of 1998 with the goal of creating a forum wherein common issues were identified for cooperative action; and WHEREAS the first Tri-County Summit was hosted by the Wayne County Commission, with subsequent hosting duties rotating between each of the regional partners; and WHEREAS topic areas of previously held Tri-County Summits have included mental health, criminal justice, transportation/transit, economic development and the environment. Other study topics addressed were water quality and regional quality of life. Specific issues have been addressed collaboratively such as home foreclosures, green infrastructure implementation, reports on the region's economic outlook and the "Silver Tsunami'; and WHEREAS legislative leaders in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne Counties recognize the benefit of reinstating the Tri-County Summit this year to provide a vehicle for meaningful conversation between the legislative bodies and to identify potential solutions to common and complex issues facing our shared region; and WHEREAS an initial group made up of Tri-County partners has been formed to plan the 2021 Tri-County Summit. Study topics within the area of infrastructure, relevant to the Southeast Michigan region, will be identified, with the focus and end goal being a successful effort which expands reach, strengthens our collective voice, explores solutions and shares best practices. Key leaders will be invited to attend and participate in this important endeavor. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the 2021 Tri-County Summit will be planned and hosted by a planning group made up of partners from Oakland, Macomb and Wayne Counties. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners joins with our esteemed colleagues from the Macomb County and Wayne County Commissions in affirming our support and participation in the Tri-County Summit. The Oakland County Board of Commissioners hereby confirms that they will participate in the 2021 Tri-County Summit. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds is requested to forward copies of the adopted resolution to the Chairperson of the Macomb County Board of Commissioners and the Chairperson of the Wayne County Commission.
