DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS MINUTES
March 25, 2021
Meeting called to order by Caucus Chairperson Kristen Nelson at 5:07 p.m. via
Videoconference.
Roll called.
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Cavell from Ferndale in Oakland County,
Charles from Southfield in Oakland County, Gershenson from Los Angeles in
California, Jackson from Southfield in Oakland County, Luebs from Clawson in
Oakland County, Markham from Novi in Oakland County, McGillivray from
Madison Heights in Oakland County, Miller from Farmington in Oakland County,
Nelson from Waterford Township in Oakland County, Powell from Royal Oak in
Oakland County, Woodward from Royal Oak in Oakland County. (11)

Quorum present.
Robert Mattler addressed the Caucus during Public Comment.
Commissioner Woodward addressed the Caucus to introduce the new Board of
Commissioners Chief of Staff, Patti Dib and stated that her expected start date is April
9, 2021.
Patti Dib, Board of Commissioners Chief of Staff, addressed the Caucus.

Moved by Luebs seconded by McGillivray the minutes of the March 9 and March 11,
2021 Caucus be approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
The members of the Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.

Chairperson Kristen Nelson addressed the Caucus regarding Legislative Affairs and
Government Operations Committee item h. entitled: Board of Commissioners –
Condemning Hate Crimes, Hateful Rhetoric, and Hateful Acts Against Asian Americans
and item i. entitled: Board of Commissioners – Support of the Oakland County Local
Municipalities’ Efforts to Secure Federal Funding for the Beck Road Business Corridor
Improvement Project.

Commissioner Miller addressed the Caucus regarding Economic Development and
Infrastructure Committee Regular Agenda item f. entitled: Facilities
Management/Facilities Planning and Engineering – County Executive – Campus
Sustainability Planning Project.

Chairperson Kristen Nelson addressed the Caucus to give an overview of the
Legislative Affairs and Government Operations Committee Regular Agenda items.

Commissioner Jackson addressed the Caucus regarding Legislative Affairs and
Government Operations Committee item i. entitled: Board of Commissioners –
Appointments to the Oakland Community Health Network.

Commissioner Luebs addressed the Caucus regarding Public Health and Safety
Committee item ee. entitled: MR #21084 – Board of Commissioners – Establish Healthy
Aging Oakland County Ad Hoc Committee. She stated that there are now two
amendments that will be offered at the Board of Commissioners meeting.

Chairperson Kristen Nelson addressed the Caucus regarding a proposed new
miscellaneous resolution to be introduced by Commissioner Hoffman entitled: Board of
Commissioners – Opposing Legislation to Extend Hours for On-Premises Alcohol Sales.

Commissioner Woodward addressed the Caucus regarding the appointment of Paul
Curtis to the Oakland County Community Development Citizens Advisory Council. He
stated the appointment will be made under Communications on the Board of
Commissioners meeting agenda.
Commissioner McGillivray addressed the Caucus regarding Security Awareness
Training.
