The meeting of the Public Services Committee was called to order at 1:31 p.m. by
Chairperson Crawford, in Committee Room A, Commissioners’ Wing, County Service
Center, Pontiac, Michigan.

APPROVAL OF THE PREVIOUS MINUTES
Scott moved approval of the minutes of December 3, 2002. Supported by McMillin.
Motion carried on a voice vote.
AGENDA ITEMS
PROSECUTING ATTORNEY, CIRCUIT COURT/FAMILY DIVISION AND PUBLIC
SERVICES/COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS DIVISION – FISCAL YEAR 2003 JUVENILE
ACCOUNTABILITY INCENTIVE BLOCK GRANT (JAIBG) GRANT ACCEPTANCE
The Michigan Family Independence Agency awarded grant funding to the Prosecuting
Attorney, Circuit Court/Family Division and Community Corrections Division under the
Juvenile Accountability Incentive Block Grant (JAIBG) for the period of April 1, 2003
through March 31, 2004. This is the 5th year of grant acceptance for this program. The
amount of this grant is $498,833, of which $448,950 is from the State, and the b alance of
$49,883 is the County’s match amount. The resolution authorizes the deletion of one SR
Probation Officer I position in the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and one SR Office Assistant
I position in the Community Corrections Division effective April 1, 2003 due to the
discontinuation of funding for these positions.
Obrecht moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Zack.
Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Moffitt and Gregory absent.
AIR SUPPORT UNIT – QUARTERLY REPORT
Captain Mike McCabe, Captain Damon Shields and Mr. Cunningham introduced
themselves, and on behalf of the Sheriff’s Department, gave an update on what the Air
Support Unit has done for the past three months and is currently doing in and aroun d
Oakland County. They invited the commissioners to the Sheriff’s Department to look at
the equipment on the aircraft and how it works. Currently, there are three pilots that are
certified to fly the aircraft. The process for selecting a fourth pilot has begun. The Air
Support Unit continues daily, county-wide patrol flights on days and afternoons. Mr.
Crawford suggested that the Sheriff’s Department set up a tour of the facility before one of
the Public Services Committee meetings within a month or two.
Scott moved to receive and file the above-mentioned report. Supported by Jamian.

Mr. Crawford informed the commissioners that if they wish to attend the budget overview
portion of the Finance Committee meeting on Thursday, it will be at 9:30 a.m.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, the meeting was adjourned
at 2:48 p.m.
