COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT: Jeff Potter, Will Molnar, Helaine Zack, Sue Ann Douglas, Thomas F. Middleton, Eileen Kowall, John Scott, Vincent Gregory, George Suarez, Marcia Gershenson COMMITTEE MEMBERS ABSENT WITH NOTICE: None OTHERS PRESENT: SHERIFF’S OFFICE Dale Cunningham, Business Manager CIRCUIT COURT/FRIEND OF THE COURT Suzanne Hollyer, Friend of the Court BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Harvey Wedell, Analyst Pamela Worthington, Committee Coordinator WELCOME Chairperson Potter welcomed Commissioners Gershenson and Molnar to the Board of Commissioners and Commissioner Suarez to the Public Services Committee. PUBLIC COMMENT None APPROVAL OF THE PREVIOUS MINUTES Chairperson Potter stated that the minutes of November 30, 2004 had been distributed, and no corrections have been offered; therefore, the minutes of November 30, 2004 will stand as printed. Douglas objected to the minutes not being approved. AGENDA ITEMS 1. SHERIFF’S OFFICE – FY 2005 OFF-ROAD VEHICLE (ORV) SAFETY EDUCATION OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS 1200 N. Scott Vincent Gregory George Suarez Marcia Gershenson PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE Page 2 January 11, 2005 PROGRAM REIMBURSEMENT GRANT APPLICATION/ACCEPTANCE The State of Michigan, Department of Natural Resources (DNR), awarded the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Marine Safety Unit $2,400 for an Off -Road Vehicle Safety Education Program. The resolution authorizes the acceptance of the $2,400 and the execution of the agreement between the Oakland County Sheriff Department and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for the period of October 1, 2004 through September 30, 2005. Zack moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Kowall. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote. 2. CIRCUIT COURT/FRIEND OF THE COURT – 2005 ACCESS AND VISITATION GRANT ACCEPTANCE The State Court Administrative Office awarded the Oakland County Friend of the Court $30,000 for services performed in conjunction with HAVEN, who facilitates visitation for certain cases as determined by the Court. The granting period is October 1, 2004 through September 30, 2005, and HAVEN would provide the required 10% in -kind matching funds in the amount of $3,450. The resolution authorizes the acceptance of $30,000 in grant funds as well as the contract between the Oakland County Friend of the Court and HAVEN. Suzanne Hollyer mentioned that if any of the committee members know of agencies other than HAVEN that provide similar services, let her know, and she will send them an RFP for next year’s cons ideration. Douglas moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Kowall. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote. INFORMATIONAL ITEM A. Sheriff’s Office – CY 2005 Marine Safety Program Grant Application Gregory moved to receive and file Item #A. Supported by Douglas. Motion carried on a voice vote. OTHER BUSINESS/ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Zack suggested that the Public Services Committee get attendance records from the Friend of the Court Citizens Advisory Committee (FOC-CAC). Chairperson Potter mentioned that he has asked the Friend of the Court to send him a copy of the statute regarding Friend of the Court Citizen Advisory Committees, which he will forward to the committee members. Once that information is received, th e subject will be addressed at a future meeting.
