MR #06192 DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY – EXTENSION OF
ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION FOR OVERTIME EXEMPT EMPLOYEES FOR SPECIFIC
PURPOSES
The Board of Commissioners has previously authorized additional compensation for
overtime exempt employees in the Information Technology Department at a straight time
hourly rate for all hours worked beyond 48 hours in a workweek for specific, pre-approved
assignments. This is a request to extend for one year additional compensation for overtime
exempt employees subject to review and evaluation by the Board of Commissioners for
continuation after one year.
Middleton moved the Personnel Committee Report to the full Board with the
recommendation MR #01692 be adopted. Supported by Suarez.
Motion carried on a unanimous roll call vote with Patterson and Rogers absent.
HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT – AUTHORIZE THE COUNTY TO SUPPLEMENT PAY
AND PROVIDE MEDICAL BENEFITS FOR DEPENDENTS OF EMPLOYEES CALLED TO
ACTIVE MILITARY DUTY
In 1991 during the Desert Storm Crisis and after the September 11th act of terrorism against
the United States the Oakland County Board of Commissioners authorized the County to
supplement the military pay and provide medical benefits for employees called to active
military duty. Medical benefits of dependents of employees currently called to active duty
will also be continued through December 31, 2007.
Moss moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Scott.
Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Patterson and Rogers absent.
HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT – OVERTIME EXEMPT EMPLOYEE PAY DEDUCTION
COMPLAINT PROCEDURES
The Fair Labor Standards Act sets forth rules and regulations governing the eligibility of job
classifications for overtime pay, minimum wage, and child labor laws and regulations. The
Act was recently revised with respect to overtime pay rules and regulations. Employers
may now establish a “Safe Harbor” procedure offering an opportunity for overtime exempt
employees to request the employer to review and investigate whether an improper pay
reduction has been made. Human Resources have developed a procedure they would like
to establish and disseminate to all County employees.
Scott moved to Receive and File. Supported by Colema n.
Motion carried on a voice vote.
