PERSONNEL COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT: Tom Middleton, Bradford Jacobsen, Sue Ann Douglas, Mike Rogers, John A. Scott, Robert Gosselin, Helaine Zack, Mattie Hatchett and Karen Spector PERSONNEL COMMITTEE MEMBERS ABSENT WITH NOTICE: George Suarez and Eric Coleman OTHERS PRESENT: Human Resources Jennifer Mason, Manager Lori Motyka, Supervisor Cathy Shallal, Manager Dawn Smith, Supervisor Heather Mason, Analyst Board of Commissioners Larry Doyle, Administrative Director Nancy Wenzel, Committee Coordinator PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Chairperson Middleton led the Committee in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF DECEMBER 13, 2007 Scott moved to approve the minutes of December 13, 2007 as printed. Supported by Spector. Motion carried on a voice. APPOINTMENTS – CLASSIFICATION DETERMINATION HEARING SUBCOMMITTEE The Classification Determination Hearing Subcommittee hears appeals of Human Resource’s job studies as outline in Merit Rule 3, involving currently existing classifications. The Subcommittee is to be composed of three Commissioner members and one alternate with appointments being made for one-year terms running from January 1, through December 31. Chairperson Middleton recommended the following Commissioners be appointed to the subcommittee for 2008: Tom Middleton, Brad Jacobsen and George Suarez with Mattie Hatchett serving as alternate. Jacobsen moved the Personnel Committee approve the recommendation of the Chair. Supported by Zack. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Suarez, Douglas, Gosselin, Coleman and Hatchett absent. APPOINTMENTS – JOB EVALUATION REVIEW PANEL The Job Evaluation Review Panel hears appeals of quarterly recommendations on salary grade reviews conducted under Merit Rule 2 guidelines. The Board of Commissioners appoints two members and one alternate. Chairperson Middleton recommended the following Commissioners be appointed to the Review Panel for 2008: John Scott and Eric Coleman with George Suarez as alternate. Scott moved the Personnel Committee Report to the General Government recommending the appointment of John Scott and Eric Coleman with George Suarez as alternate. Supported by Hatchett. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Suarez and Coleman absent. COMMUNICATIONS Hatchett moved to Receive & File Communication Items A – C. A. Position Change Summary Report B. Department of Health and Human Services/Health Division – Healthy Start Initiative – Eliminating Racial/Ethnic Disparities Grant Application C. Oakfit Wellness Update Supported by Jacobsen Motion carried on a voice vote with Suarez and Coleman absent. Personnel Committee Page 3 January 9, 2008 OTHER BUSINESS/ADJOURNMENT Larry Doyle reported Commissioner Suarez has had some set backs in his battle with cancer but is looking forward to returning as soon as he can.
