COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT: Jim Runestad, Bill Dwyer, Gary McGillivray, Shelley G. PUBLIC COMMENT None. APPROVAL OF JANUARY 25, 2011 MINUTES Covey moved to approve the Minutes of January 25 , 2011 as printed. Supported by Taub. Motion carried on a voice vote. SHERIFF’S OFFICE – PAINT CREEK TRAILWAYS CONTRACT FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES FOR THE 2011 SEASON The Paint Creek Trailways Commission has requested the Oakland County Sheriff provide law enforcement patrol services for the 2011 season. The Sheriff has agreed to contract for this service for Part Time Non -Eligible Mounted Deputies. Continuation of the additional 500 hours added per M.R. # 06129 are contingent upon renewal of this agreement. Taub moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by McGillivray. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Matis and Jackson absent. McGillivray PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE Page 2 March 15, 2011 SHERIFF’S OFFICE – AUTHORIZATION FOR SALE OF RECOVERED AND STOLEN PROPERTY IN SPRING AUCTION The provisions of Act 54 of the Public Act of 1959, as amended, requires board authorization for the disposal of re covered and stolen property that has been unclaimed for six months. The spring auction will be held on Saturday May 14, 2011 ; the Sheriff is requesting the authority to proceed with the sale of items as detailed in the attached list. Taub moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Dwyer . Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Matis and Jackson absent. Undersheriff McCabe informed the Committee the Sheriff’s Office is in negotiations with the Emergency Financial M anager of Pontiac and hope to have a law enforcement/fire contract with Pontiac affective May 1, 2011. PROSECUTING ATTORNEY, CIRCUIT COURT – FAMILY DIVISION, AND CHILDRENS VILLAGE – PROGRAM YEAR 2011 JUVENILE ACCOUNTABILITY BLOCK GRANT (JABG) ACCEPTANCE The Department of Human Services has awarded grant funding to the Prosecuting Attorney, Circuit Court -Family Division and Children’s Village in the amount of $128,095. Funding consists of $115,287 from the State as a Federal pass -through; the balance of $12,808 is a required 10% County match. This grant provides project funding focusing on areas of opportunity to increase accountability for juvenile criminal offenses and increase accountability in the juvenile system. The program consists of four projects: 1) Children’s Village Information Sharing Database Management System, 2) Prosecutor funding for a dedicated projector for presentations on Community Awareness of Gang Activity and digital crimes, 3) Prosecutor Accountability – Teen Court program continuation and 4) Circuit Court Juvenile Drug Court Art Through Photography program continuation. The grant award continues funding for one Probation Officer and provides funding for contractual consultant services. Acceptance of this grant does not obligate the County to any future commitment and continuation of the special revenue position is contingent upon future levels of grant funding. Taub moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Gershenson. Taub moved to amend the resolution in the 6th WHEREAS, “2) Prosecutor funding for a dedicated projector for presentations on Community Awareness of Gang Activity and digital crimes ….” Supported by Dwyer. Motion to amend carried on a voice vote. Main motion as amended carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Matis and Jackson absent. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS None.
