COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT: Jim Runestad, Bill Dwyer, Gary McGillivray, Shelley G. PUBLIC COMMENT None APPROVAL OF June 28, 2011 MINUTES Taub moved to approve the Minutes of June 28, 2011 as printed. Supported by Covey. Motion carried on a voice vote. PUBLIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT/ANIMAL CONTROL DIVISION – ESTABLISH FISCAL YEAR 2011 – FISCAL YEAR 2013 MUNICIPALITIES OAKLAND PET ADOPTION CENTER RATES FOR BOARDING AND DISPOSAL The Oakland Pet Adoption Center renders services to local jurisdictions through Purchase Contracts. McGillivray PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE Page 2 July 12, 2011 PUBLIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT/ANIMAL CONTROL DIVISION – ESTABLISH FISCAL YEAR 2011 – FISCAL YEAR 2013 MUNICIPALITIES OAKLAND PET ADOPTION CENTER RATES FOR BOARDING AND DISPOSAL (Continued) Mr. Obrecht announced a pilot program “Dog Tags”. This program involves Veterans working with a dog, trainer and therapist in eight person units. At the end of the program if the veteran chooses not to keep the dog it will be put up for adoption. Hopefully the veteran and dog bond and rem ain together, a win win situation for everyone. Taub moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Dwyer. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Gershenson absent. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SERVICES/COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS – MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS, OFFICE OF COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS, COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS COMPREHENSIVE PLAN AND APPLICATION FOR FY 2012 The State of Michigan offers funding to local communities targeting diversion of non -violent offenders from prison into local jails or sentencing alternatives. This application is requesting funding in the amount of $1,795,303 for plans and services for the grant period October 1, 2011 through September 30, 2012. A total appropriation of $2,132,513 is requested for probation residential services, which the State now pays directly to the Probation Residential Centers since they hold the con tract for all residential services. The funding supports sixteen full time eligible positions, three part time non -eligible positions, and 50% funding for two positions in the Community Corrections Division. Taub moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by McGillivray. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Gershenson absent. COMMUNICATIONS None . OTHER BUSINESS/ADJOURNMENT Chairperson Runestad set a Public Hearing for July 21, 2011 at 9:45 a.m. on the U.S. Department of Justice – Edward Byrnes Memorial Justice Grant Application for FY 2011.
