PUBLIC COMMENT None APPROVAL OF August 3, 2011 MINUTES McGillivray moved to approve the Minutes of August 3, 2011 as printed. Supported by Dwyer. Motion carried on a voice vote. SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT – CONTRACT FOR COURT SECURITY AT THE 48TH DISTRICT COURT – BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP FOR 2012/2013/2014 The 48th District Court in Bloomfield Township is requesting that the Sheriff continue to provide security to the Court with PTNE Court Deputies through September 30, 2014. This resolution requests that three PTNE 1,000 hrs/yr Deputy II positions be continued and reviewed in the budget process. Gershenson moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. McGillivray PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE Page 2 August 9, 2011 SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT – CONTRACT FOR COURT SECURITY AT THE 47TH DISTRICT COURT – FARMINGTON HILLS FOR 2012/2013/2014 The 47th District Court in Farmington Hills is requesting that the Sheriff continue to provide security to the Court with PTNE Court Deputies through September 2014. This resolution requests that three PTNE 1,000 hrs/yr Deputy II positions be continued and reviewed in the budget process. Dwyer moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Bosnic. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote. SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT – CONTRACT FOR COURT SECURITY AT THE 43 rd DISTRICT COURT – HAZEL PARK FOR 2012/2013/2014 The 43rd District Court in Hazel Park is requesting that the Sheriff continue to provide security to the Court with PTNE Court Deputies through September 2014. This resolution requests that two PTNE Deputy II positions be increased from 1,480 to 1,720 hours per year and be continued and reviewed in the budget process. Covey moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by McGillivray. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote. SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT – CONTRACT FOR COURT SECURITY AT THE 43rd DISTRICT COURT – MADISON HEIGHTS FOR 2012/2013/2014 The 43rd District Court in Madison Heights is requesting that the Sheriff continue to provide security to the Court with PTNE Court Deputies through September 2014. This resolution requests that two PTNE 1,000 hrs/yr Deputy II positions be continued and reviewed in the budget process. McGillivray moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Dwyer Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote. SHERIFF’S OFFICE – CONTRACT FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES AT THE MICHIGAN RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL – 2011 SEASON The Michigan Renaissance Festival, the operat or of a summer theatre facility in Groveland Township, has requested the Sheriff’s Office to supply Deputies for the upcoming 2011 Season. The Michigan Renaissance Festival will reimburse the Sheriff’s Office at the hourly overtime rates for the 2010 season, as established by MR #10262, number of man hours to be determined. Taub moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Matis. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote. SHERIFF’S OFFICE – 2011 MARINE SAFETY PROGRAM GRANT ACCEPTANCE The Sheriff’s Office applied for a Michigan Department of Natural Resources & Env ironment grant for $234,823 to conduct Marine Safety activities for the period January 1, 2011 through December 30, 2011. The awarded grant consists of Federal funding in the amount of $64,191.50 and State funding in the amount of $122.574.50 with a 25% County match of $40,858 on the State portion only; for total program funding of $227,624. Taub moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Gershenson. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote. Commissioner Dwyer requested an update on the Pontiac Police Department transition. Undersheriff McCabe reported the City of Pontiac officially transferred police services to the Sheriff’s Department on July 31 at 11 p.m. The Sheriff absorbed 50 former Pontiac officers, called back 13 laid off Pontiac officers and 12 laid off Sheriff Deputies. There were some communication problems that were quickly resolved; the transition was very smooth. Captain Atkins has implemented some good business PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE Page 3 August 9, 2011 processes that have sped up response time and paperwork issues. Citizen feedback has been positive. All officers have received CPR and first aid training. Undersheriff McCabe thanked the Executive Office, IT, and Central Services for their team effort in making the transition as seamless as possible. HAVEN – Safe Therapeutic Assault Response Team (START) Program October 1, 2010 through December 31, 20 11 B. Circuit Court – 2012 Michigan Drug Court Grant Program (Juve nile Drug Court) - Grant Application C. Circuit Court – 2012 Michigan Drug Court Grant Program (Adult Treatment Court) – Grant Application D. Friend of the Court Citizens Advisory Committee Minutes May 9, 2011 E. Friend of the Court Citizens Advisory Committee Minutes June 13, 2011 F. Sheriff’s Office – 2011 COPS Child Sexual Predator Program (CSPP) Grant Application Commissioner Taub requested additional information regarding Item F – 2011 COPS Child Sexual Predator Program (CSPP) Grant Application. Undersheriff McCabe explained this is an invitation only application offered to applicants that demonstrate multi-jurisdictional and/or a multidisciplinary approach to locating, arresting, and prosecuting child sexual predators. This opportunity was offered to 25 applicants nationwide with only two located in Michigan. If awarded the program budget would be $448,878 enabling the County to create two entry level Deputy II positions, purchase computer hardware and software equipment technology and cover travel and training expenses of the officers for a two year period with no matching funds required. Motion to Receive & File approved on a voice vote. Commissioner Taub requested contact names be included on the agenda for Communication Items. This issue will be considered.
