COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT: Jim Runestad, Bill Dwyer, Gary McGillivray, Shelley G. PUBLIC COMMENT None APPROVAL OF August 23, 2011 MINUTES Covey moved to approve the Minutes of August 23, 2011 as printed. Supported by Jackson. Motion carried on a voice vote. SHERIFF’S OFFICE – DISPOSITION OF K-9 DOG – RUDY Rudy has faithfully served the County of Oakland in his role as a K-9 dog for eight years and is nearing retirement age . Because of Rudy’s unique training and undeniable bond with his handler, Deputy Rodd , Rudy will be sold to Deputy Roddy for a nominal sum. Covey moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supp orted by Gershenson Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Runestad absent. McGillivray PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE Page 2 September 13, 2011 SHERIFF’S OFFICE ADDITION OF K-9 DOG – CHARGE Deputy Roddy has purchased a dog to replace Rudy in the K-9 unit, Charge, a Dutch Shepherd. Charge has been successfully trained and certified in the areas of Narcotics Detection, Article Searches, Tracking and Obedience. Deputy Roddy has agreed to sell Charge to Oakland County for $1.00 on the condition Charge is sold back to him for the same sum upon his transfer from the K-9 unit or at the end of Charge’s service life, whichever comes first. McGillivray moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Taub. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Runestad absent. SHERIFF’S OFFICE – DISPOSITION OF K-9 DOG – BOSS Boss has faithfully served the County of Oakland in his role as a K-9 dog for eight years and is nearing retirement age. Because of Boss’s unique training and undeniable bond with his handler, Deputy Richardson, Boss will be sold to Deputy Richardson for a nominal sum. SHERIFF’S OFFICE ADDITION OF K-9 DOG – BLITZ Deputy Richardson has purchased a dog to replace Boss in the K-9 unit, Blitz, a Dutch Shepherd. Blitz has been successfully trained and certified in the areas of Narcotics Detection, Article Searches, Tracking and Obedience. Deputy Richardson has agreed to sell Blitz to Oakland County for $1.00 on the condition Blitz is sold back to him for the same sum upon his transfer from the K-9 unit or at the end of Blitz’s service life, whichever comes first. Matis moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Jackson. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Runestad absent. MULTIDEPARTMENTAL: SHERIFF’S OFFICE AND COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS – 2011 EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG) PROGRAM – GRANT ACCEPTANCE The U.S. Department of Justice – Office of Justice Programs has awarded Oakland County, along with the Cities of Pontiac and Southfield grant funding in the amount of $208,894 for the period October 1, 2010 through September 30, 2014. Oakland County’s share is $33,180; the federal allocation distribution is $121,903 for Pontiac and $53,811 for South field. There is no grant match required. It is recommended the Court Deputy I position created for after -hours Community Corrections program security be changed to Special Revenue from GF/GP. Continuation of the program is contingent upon future levels of grant funding. Taub moved approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Matis. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Runestad absent. Chairperson Runestad arrived at 1:47 p.m. COMMUNICATIONS McGillivray moved to Receive and File Communication Items A & B. Supported by Matis. A. Circuit Court – 2012 Michigan Mental Health Court Grant – Grant Application B. Friend of the Court- FY 2012 Access and Visitation Grant – Grant Application Motion to Receive & File approved on a voice vote.
