APPROVAL OF THE PREVIOUS MINUTES Spisz moved approval of the minutes of April 12, 2016, as printed. Supported by McGillivray. Motion carried on a voice vote. Ms. Andrews explained that letters are sent to retailers requesting discounts on gun safe purchases. Should the retailer not be able to offer a discount, t hey are asked to partner with the Sheriff’s Office and provide their name for the event. Commissioners were encouraged to contact their local retailers to participate. Chairperson Dwyer stated that June 7 is the press conference and the Gun Safety Lock Day is on June 10, 2016. AGENDA ITEMS 1. SHERIFF’S OFFICE – CONTRACT AMENDMENT #1 FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES IN THE TOWNSHIP OF ADDISON 2016 The Sheriff’s Office is seeking to amend the law enforcement contract with Addison Township. Addison Township voted to restore the Deputy II position that was eliminated due to cutbacks several years ago. Spisz moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by McGillivray. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Jackson absent. 2. SHERIFF’S OFFICE – CONTRACT AMENDMENT #1 FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES IN THE TOWNSHIP OF ORION 2016 The Sheriff’s Office is seeking to amend the law enforcement contract with Orion Township. A Patrol Sergeant position will be added for supervision, bringing the substation total to 30 officers, including command staff. Spisz moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by McGillivray. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Jackson absent. 3.. SHERIFF’S OFFICE – AUTHORIZATION FOR SALE OF RECOVERED AND STOLEN PROPERTY IN SPRING AUCTION The Sheriff’s Office is requesting authorization to dispose of unclaimed property from recovered and stolen goods in its spring auction. This is an annual reques t every spring and fall. The auction event takes place live and online. The highest bidder wins the item. The auction is being held on May 21, 2016, and is open to the public. Scott moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Kowall. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Jackson absent. PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE Page 3 April 26, 2016 4. SHERIFF’S OFFICE – CONTRACT FOR AUXILIARY DEPUTY SERVICES IN THE CITY OF ORCHARD LAKE 2016 The Sheriff’s Office is requesting approval of a contract with the City of Orchard Lake to provide law enforcement services for special events. The annual contract includes standard law enforcement officers and Mounted Deputy patrol support as needed. Every year the Sheriff’s Office assists with the St. Mary’s Fair scheduled in May. Scott moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by McGillivray. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Jackson absent. COMMUNICATIONS A. Sheriff’s Office – 2016 State Criminal Alien Assista nce Program (SCAAP) Grant Application B. Sheriff’s Office – 2016 Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) Grant Application C. Public Services – Animal Control Division - 2016 Cage Renewal Grant Application Spisz moved to receive and file the Communications. Supported by Scott. Motion carried on a voice vote. In reference to Communications A, Undersheriff McCabe stated that the information about the number of jailed criminal aliens is not provided to the Sheriff’s Office. OTHER BUSINESS/ADJOURNMENT Undersheriff McCabe updated the Committee about a recent murder in Pontiac. The suspect is a Wayne County parolee formerly charged with manslaughter. The parolee removed his tether and took the victim’s vehicle. Local law enforcement agencies are searching for him in the Six Mile and Woodward area .
