Chairperson Dwyer called the meeting of the Public Services Committee to order at 11:01 a.m. in
Committee Room A, Commissioners’ Wing, County Service Center, Pontiac, Michigan.

AGENDA ITEMS
1. SHERIFF’S OFFICE – 2016 EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE
GRANT (JAG) PROGRAM - ACCEPTANCE
The Sheriff’s Office is requesting acceptance of a grant from the Department of Justice. This grant
is awarded annually. The grant is named after Edward Byrne, a New York police of ficer who was
killed in the line of duty. The grant award is $80,862. The funds are proposed to be used to move
the property room from the jail basement over to L B uilding. This location is more accessible to the
public.
Spisz moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by
McGillivray.
Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Jackson absent.
2. PROSECUTING ATTORNEY – FISCAL YEAR 2017 CRIME VICTIM RIGHTS - GRANT
ACCEPTANCE
The Prosecutor’s Office is request ing acceptance of the Crime Victim Rights Grant from the
Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. The grant is in its 25th year. The funding
amount is $223,900 with no required County match. The decrease of $4,800 was due to one -time
funding given to all counties last year for computers . The reimbursement grant originates from the
Crime Victim Rights Fund established in 1989 to pay for mandated crime victim services. The grant
reimburses the costs of salaries and partial fringe benefits for fou r victim advocates.
Kowall moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by
Spisz.
Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Jackson absent.
COMMUNICATIONS
A. Veterans’ Services Division – Annual Report FY 2015
Scott moved to receive and file the Communications. Supported by Kowall.
Motion carried on a voice vote.

There being no further business to come before the Committee, the meeting was adjourned at
