FRIEND OF THE COURT – FY2017 ACCESS AND VISITATION GRANT - ACCEPTANCE The Friend of the Court is seeking acceptance of grant monies from the State Court Administra tive Office (SCAO). This is the 20th year of the grant. The $13 ,000 award will be used toward supervised parenting time for noncustodial parents. Impact Consulting is the chosen provider. The award last year was $22,000. Ms. Hollyer stated additional monies may be awarded for this fiscal year, in which case she would return to request acceptance of an award increase. Tietz moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Berman. Motion carried unanimously on a roll cal l vote with Dwyer and McGillivray absent. 2. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SERVICES/COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS DIVISION – MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS/OFFICE OF COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS, COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS GRANT AMENDMENT FOR FY2017 The Department of Public Serv ices/Community Corrections is requesting approval of a grant amendment for the State of Michigan grant funds. The annual grant was brought to the Committee and accepted at last month’s meeting. The award is $75,000 less than the requested amount. The amendment addresses the re -allocation of funds in the budget, which results in the deletion of one Inmate Casework Specialist position in the Sheriff’s Office. Ms. Hankey briefly summarized some of the department’s programs funded under this grant. A brief discussion was held. Tietz moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Jackson. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Dwyer and McGillivray absent. 3. SHERIFF’S OFFICE – CONTRACT AMENDMENT #1 FOR LAW E NFORCEMENT SERVICES IN THE CITY OF PONTIAC 2017/2018 The Sheriff’s Office is seeking approval of a contract amendment for the addition of two full -time Deputy II positions in Pontiac. The number of police positions in the City of Pontiac will be brought up to 79. Berman moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Jackson. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Dwyer and McGillivray absent. PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE Page 3 January 17, 2017 4. SHERIFF’S OFFICE – USE OF LAB ENHANCEMENT FUNDS FOR EQUI PMENT PURCHASE The Sheriff’s Office is seeking authorization to utilize funds to purchase a scanner for the forensic lab. The current equipment is outdated and the new 3D Laser Scanner is up to date and is technologically capable to help provide a visual presentation in court . Tietz moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Berman. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Dwyer and McGillivray absent. 5. SHERIFF’S OFFICE –2017 PAUL COVERDELL FORENSIC SC IENCE IMPROVEMENT GRANT PROGRAM - ACCEPTANCE The Sheriff’s Office is seeking acceptance of the Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement grant from the Michigan State Police. The grant amount is $29,368 , which is $25,000 less than last year. The grant monies are used toward conducting forensic exams. Berman moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Jackson. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Dwyer and McGillivray absent. 6. VETERANS’ SERVICES DIVISION – 2017 COUNTY VETERANS INCENTIVE GRANT – GRANT ACCEPTANCE The Veterans’ Services Division is requesting acceptance of a grant from the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency. The grant is $20,000 and will be utilized to partially reimburse the prior purchase of a wheelchair-accessible van for the transportation of veterans. Mr. Wootten explained the transportation program details and transport point locations. Jackson moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Tietz. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Dwyer and McGillivray absent. COMMUNICATIONS A. Sheriff’s Office – 2017 Michigan Medical Marihuana Operation and Oversight – Grant Application B. Animal Control and Pet Adoption Center 2016 Report Berman moved to receive and file the Communications. Supported by Jackson. Motion carried on a voice vote.
