Chairperson Long called the meeting of the General Government Committee to order at 9:33 a.m. in
Committee Room A of the Commissioners’ Auditorium Wing, County Service Center in Pontiac, Michigan.

AGENDA ITEMS
1. MR #17099 - BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS - DESIGNATION OF JUNE 2017 AS NATIONAL SAFETY
MONTH IN OAKLAND COUNTY AND SUPPORT OF EFFORTS TO PROMOTE FIREARMS SAFETY
The resolution was introduced by Commissioner Spisz in support of National Safety Month. Th e Gun Lock
Giveaway event has taken place for four years. The annual promotion is intended to raise gun safety
awareness for the prevention of gun violence. June is National Safety Month and the event this year will kick
off on June 6th, which is the designated gun safety day for the Press Conference and the distribution of gun
locks. Bill Brassard, Director of NSS F, will be present to promote the event. Members of the ATF and
representatives for youth suicide prevention will also attend. Information about gun safes will be available, as
well as Lock It Up Oakland pamphlets.
Taub moved to report to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution . Supported by
Fleming.
Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Gershenson absent .
OTHER BUSINESS
Commissioner Taub will be at tending the NACo conference in Columbus, Ohio . Commissioner Spisz
indicated that he will be in Ohio at that time and plans to attend. NACo has recognized the Board of
Commissioners for their Lock It Up Oakland campaign and an award will be presented at the conference.

Hoffman moved to receive and file Communication Items A -C. Supported by Taub.

Chairperson Long announced that the Youth in Government Day event is being held in the Auditorium.
There being no further business to come before the Commi ttee, the meeting adjourned at 9:36 a.m.
