Vice Chairperson Taub called the meeting to order at 2:02 p.m. in Committee Room A of the
Courthouse Auditorium Wing, County S ervice Center, in Pontiac, Michigan.

Berman moved approval of the agenda, as presented. Supported by Woodward.

PUBLIC COMMENT
Mr. Bertolini introduced Dr. Tim Meyer, former chancellor of Oakland Community College, as the
new Deputy County Executive of Economic Development and Community Affairs . A brief
discussion regarding the Amazon bid was held. Mr. Meyer gave a brief overview of his vision for
business and community development and stated his viewpoint regarding higher education, talent
and future job opportunities.
AGENDA ITEMS
1. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNITY AFFAIRS – RESOLUTION APPROVING
THE PROVISIONS OF A BROWNFIELD PLAN FOR THE 26700 WIXOM ROAD PROJECT –
CITY OF NOVI
The Department of Economic Development and Community Affairs is seeking approval of a
Brownfield Plan for the 26700 Wixom Road Project located in Novi. Mr. Hunter stated the 26-acre
industrial piece of property is located at Grand River and Wixom Road in Novi. Pulte Homes plans
to redevelop the site into a residential property located just west of Providence Park and connected
by a pedestrian trail. Mr. Hansen further described the site as a former steel plant, includi ng a
vacant 39,000 square foot building which will be demolished. Pulte plans to build 43 duplexes and
a total of 86 units to be targeted to the 55-plus adult population. The investment is estimated at $35
million. The site contains contaminated soil , with PCBs and VOCs. The project will begin late this
year or the beginning of next year and run through 2021. The current value is estimated at $1.2
million and the value is estimated to be $18.7 million at the completion of the project. The project
was approved by the Oakland County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (OCBRA) to be
redeveloped under the Brownfield Plan.
Bowman moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported
by Fleming.
Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Spisz absent.
Vice Chairperson Taub set a public hearing on the adoption of the Brownfield Plan for the 26700
Wixom Road Project in Novi for Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at 7:00 p.m.

A packet containing the MiCareerQuest Southeast Business Sponsorship & Participatio n Guide
for the November 28th event was distributed. Ms. Llewellyn answered the Committee members’
questions and the event details were discussed.

Ms. Llewellyn shared that plans on securing the event sponsors by the end of April and
exhibitors will be secured May through September f or the interactive, hands-on exhibits. The
West Michigan Works is hosting their event on April 26 in Grand Rapids. Ms. Llewellyn will be
attending and extended the invitation to the Committee to join her.
Woodward moved to receive and file Communication s Item A. Supported by Berman.
Motion carried on a voice vote.
OTHER BUSINESS/ADJOURNMENT
Ms. Spanos stated that the department continues their work on the economic development effort.
The IT techs will be gathering a t the monthly meetup on Friday morning at FANUC in Rochester
Hills.
Mr. Bertolini stated that an informational summary is being prepared that is similar to the quarterly
reports prepared for the Finance Committee, so that the commissioners can share the information
with their constituents.
There being no further business to come before the Commi ttee, the meeting adjourned at 2:35 p.m.
