Mr. Miarka , Medical Examiner‘s Office Administrator, stated that from January 2016 to present, 58 private autopsies were performed, 22 of which were for Oakland County residents. Private autopsies are performed only for cases outside of the Medical Examiner’s Office. The Medical Examiner is involved in case investigations for violent or suspicious deaths. The fee collected for private autopsies from the family in cases that are unrelated to any deaths investigated by the Medical Examiner are put into the General Fund.
