Berman Doug Tietz Gary McGillivray PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE Page 2 June 5, 2018 PUBLIC COMMENT Ms. Dunbar commented regarding her involvement in a Pontiac traffic accident and the police report that was filed. REGULAR AGENDA 1. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SERVICES/COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS – MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF COR RECTIONS, OFFICE OF COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS, COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS COMPREHENSIVE PLAN AND APPLICATION FOR FY 2019 The Department of Public Services/Community Corrections is requesting approval of the plan and grant application for State of Michigan funds. The Community Corrections request for this year is nearly $1.7 million and will be used to continue staff positions to run the department’s programs and services. This is an increase of $117,000 from last year’s request. The grant period is October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019 . The resolution has been reviewed and approved by the required departments, including Corporation Counsel. Tietz moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Jackson. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Dwyer absent. 2. SHERIFF’S OFFICE - 2018 MARINE SAFETY PROGRAM GRANT ACCEPTANCE The Sheriff’s Office is requesting acceptance of the Marine Safety Program grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The total grant award is $124,000, which is a decrease from last year. The grant amounts are determined and distributed by the DNR. The County’s share of funds has decreased over the years. The grant will be used for marine patrol of county lakes. McGillivray moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Berman. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Dwyer absent. 3. SHERIFF’S OFFICE – FY2018 OAKLAND COUNTY GANG AND VIOLENT CRIME SAFE STREETS TASK FORCE (SSTF) - GRANT ACCEPTANCE The Sheriff’s Office is seeking acceptance of a grant from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). Undersheriff McCabe stated that th e Safe Streets Task Force (SSTF) relocated from the Pontiac substation to a campus location with top security clearance. The SSTF is a resource for all the local departments and has assisted in solving multi-jurisdictional crimes. The Sheriff’s Office pays for the officers’ wages and the FBI reimburses costs for up to $18,042 of assigned overtime hours. Tietz moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Jackson. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Dwyer absent. PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE Page 3 June 5, 2018 OTHER BUSINESS Undersheriff McCabe stated that the DNA lab currently has two a nalysts and another is in the application process. Ultimately 13 analysts are needed. Undersheriff McCabe described the touch DNA that can be obtained from someone touching a surface. Commissioner McGillivray asked about the status of the Southfield dispatch services transfer. Undersheriff McCabe indicated that the City of Southfield approached the County some time ago and is currently in the discussion stage. COMMUNICATIONS A.
