Vice-Chairperson Fleming called the meeting of the General Government Committee to order at 5:52 p.m.
in Committee Room A of the Commissioners’ Auditorium Wing, County Service Center in Pontiac,
Michigan.

AGENDA ITEMS
1. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES/HEALTH DIVISION – qPCR METHODS FOR
OAKLAND COUNTY BEACHES GRANT CONTRACT W ITH THE DEPARTMENT OF
ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY (DEQ) – DEQ PROJECT NUMBER 2018 -7216
The Health Division is requesting acceptance of grant monies from the Michigan Department of
Environmental Quality (DEQ) in the amount of $79,214, wi th a local match of $7,00 0, to evaluate the
detection of E. coli in Oakland County beaches. This funding will continue the Health Division’s efforts of
evaluating the beaches through the qPCR method, alongside their regular beach sampling. This method
has the potential to develop and change the standards for beach sampling .
Kochenderfer moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution . Supported by
Hoffman.
Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Long and Kowall absent.

OTHER BUSINESS/ADJOURNMENT
Hoffman moved that the General Government Committee , pursuant to Board Rule IX, Section H,
waive the publication and interviewing requirements for the reappointment of Shelley Goodman
Taub to the Library Board that was recommended to the Board of Commissioners and confirmed on
August 9, 2018. Supported by Gershenson.
Motion carried on a voice vote.
There being no further business to come before the Commi ttee, the meeting adjourned at 5:56 p.m.
