APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Bowman moved approval of the minutes of September 18, 2018, as printed. Supported by Fleming. Motion carried on a voice vote. BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS – SPONSORSHIP OF 2018 MICAREERQUEST SOUTHEAST EVENT – INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN OAKLAND COUNTY AND OAKLA ND SCHOOLS The Board of Commissioners is seeking approval of an Interlocal Agreement between Oak land County and Oakland Schools regarding the upcoming MiCareerQuest event for a not-to-exceed amount of $5,000 . The $5,000 will be used to reimburse participating schools for transportation costs. This is the first year of the career event in Southeast Michigan , which will take place at the Novi Suburban Collection Showplace on November 28, 2018. Ms. Llewellyn gave a brief description of the program in Grand Rapids that was used as a model for this event. The intent of this event is to raise career awareness and exploration of the following four career areas: Advanced manufacturing, construction, health sciences and information technology. Approximately 10,000 high school s tudents will attend in groups filling three timeslots throughout the day. This item has completed the Automatic Direct Referral process. Brochures and a list of schools with attendee numbers were distributed. Fleming moved to report to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Woodward. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Spisz and Berman absent. 2. DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNITY AFFAIRS/ WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT – POSITION CHANGES The Workforce Development Division is requesting approval of staff position changes. The creation of one full-time eligible Workforce Development Technician III position will be funded through state and federal grants. This position will be responsible for the coordination of job training programs. Additional funds will offset the costs of the new position from the deletion of a part-time eligible summer criminal justice caseworker position and the downward reclassification of an office leader position to office assistant. A brief discussion was held. Woodward moved to recommend approval of the attached suggested resolution. Supported by Fleming. Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Spisz and Berman absent. Fleming moved to directly refer the resolution to the Human Resources and Finance Committees. Supported by Bowman. Motion to refer carried on a voice vote. 3. DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNITY AFFAIRS – MAIN STREET – TECH248 INITIATIVE - PRESENTATION A PowerPoint presentation from the One Stop Shop Division was given by Mr. Doyle on the Tech248 Initiative. The focus of the initiatives are talent, connectivity and branding. A discussion was held and a Tech 248 flier and agenda for the October 26 MeetUp w as distributed. OTHER BUSINESS/ADJOURNMENT Mr. Hunter mentioned the online contest for the National Trust for Historic Preservation grant and urged the Committee members to vote for the Pontiac neighborhood next to the GM Powertrain location.
