Efforts focus on helping young women develop in all ways to become engaged, competent and thriving citizens throughout their communities. The Power of Girlhood is a fiscally-sponsored project of Allied Media a 501 (c) 3 non- profit organization. Projects include the In(her)Voice Project—Media production and girlsMagazine publication, Youtube and Podcast, Tweens Leadership Summer Program, International Day of the Girl and creative writing clinics. What is the estimated cost of this project? $100,000 Are there any possible funding partners or matching funds available? If so, please explain. N/A What is the purpose of this project? To provide girls with support, place and resources - especially in underserved and underrepresented areas - which help to increase access to opportunities and representation. These services assist with career, social-emotional and personal growth and development. Who will benefit from the project and how? These funds help carry out and expand the organization's mission. Funding provides support for our editorial team of high school and college students, in addition to assisting the production of events such as the International Day of the Girl, The Tweens Leadership Institute and June Meet Up. This allows helps keep programming free, low-cost or scholarship. What is the expected duration of the project? Year long availability. Will the project/cost fall within one or multiple budget cycles? No Will there be a need to organize support from any Oakland County Departments or outside agencies? If so, please explain. CONTACT Janet Jackson, Commissioner jacksonj@oakgov.com ITEM REVIEW TRACKING Board of Commissioners Created - Board of Commissioners Board of Commissioners AGENDA DEADLINE: 10/09/2022 12:58 PM COMMITTEE TRACKING 2022-09-14 Finance - Recommend to Board 2022-09-29 Full Board - Approve ATTACHMENTS None September 29, 2022 REPORT 2022-2057 Special Project Sponsorship of the 2022 Power of Girlhood Program Sponsored By: Janet Jackson, Commissioner Chairperson, the Board of Commissioners recommends the following Board action: Resolved, motion to approve the one-time appropriation of up to $100,000 from non-departmental transfers General Fund Special Projects to the Board of Commissioners General Fund Special Projects line-item budget to sponsor the Allied Media Projects-The Power of Girlhood, a leadership development organization providing job training, education and support to young women to become engaged and competent thriving citizens, expansion of existing programming including: The In(her)Voice Project—media production and publication for girls by girls, local magazine and podcast, Tweens Leadership Summer Program, and International Day of the Girl — creative writing clinics; further, a budget amendment appropriating funds for the costs associated with the implementation of the one-time payment will be included in a subsequent quarterly forecast and that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners approves and authorizes the Chairperson of the Board to execute the required agreement on behalf of Oakland County upon the review of Corporation Counsel.
