INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
MCL 45.421 provides that the annual salary of each salaried county officer shall be fixed by the Board of Commissioners
before November 1 each year. This action is being presented separately from the FY2023 Salaries Package because
the County Executive makes no recommendation regarding the compensation for the County Executive, County
Clerk/Register of Deeds, County Treasurer, Sheriff, Prosecuting Attorney, and Water Resources Commissioner. MR
#21378 set the compensation for these elected officials with a 0% increase for FY2022. It is now appropriate that the
Board of Commissioners approve compensation for these Oakland County elected officials for FY2023.
POLICY ANALYSIS
The adoption of compensation for the countywide elected officials is reviewed and adopted
annually by the Oakland County Board of Commissioners. Adoption of this resolution will determine
compensation for FY 2023.
PA 154 of 1879, Section 45.421 states that “The annual salary of each salaried county officer,
which is by law fixed by the county board of commissioners, shall be fixed by the board before
November 1 each year and shall not be diminished during the term for which the county officer has
been elected or appointed, but may be increased by the board during the officer's term of office.”
BUDGET AMENDMENT REQUIRED: Yes
