Board of Commissioners Kristen Nelson
The Parks and Recreation Commission was established pursuant to MCL 46.351. The
Commission's purpose is to preserve park land and to create recreational, leisure and learning
experiences for Oakland County residents.
The Commission consists of ten members:
• The Road Commissioner for Oakland County
• The Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner
• The County Executive or their designee
• Seven members appointed by the Oakland County Board of Commissioners, not more than
three of whom shall be members of the Board of Commissioners
Commission members must be Oakland County residents and at least 18 years of age. Members
are appointed to serve three-year terms and receive a $90 per diem, as well as mileage
reimbursement. The Commission meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 1:00 p.m.
The appointment of Amanda Herzog (citizen) expires 12/31/2022 and she has requested
reappointment_

Chairperson, the Board of Commissioners recommends the following Board action:
The Legislative Affairs & Government Operations Committee, having reviewed the upcoming vacancy
on the Oakland County Parks & Recreation Commission, recommends that Amanda Herzog be
reappointed to a three-year term beginning January 1, 2023, and ending December 31, 2025.
Chairperson, the following Commissioners recommend the adoption of the foregoing Board action:
Kristen Nelson.

f have served on the Parks and Recreation Commission since 2020. During this time,
I have participated in various initiatives and activities, such as but not limited to: OC
Parks and Recreation Millage passed by voters in November 2020, acquisition of
Turtle Woods Preseive, formed the environmental sustainability committee,
approved $1.2M in community grants program and $20M in ARPA funds for healthy
communities park & outdoor recreation investment to transform local parks.
