Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan. Roll called. COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Cavell from Ferndale, Charles, Gershenson from Los Angeles, CA, Jackson from Southfield, Luebs, Markham, McGillivray from Madison Heights, Miller from Farmington Hills, Nelson, Powell, Woodward. (11) COMMISSIONERS-ELECT PRESENT: Johnson from Rochester, Raman from Novi. (2) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: None. (0) Quorum present. No one addressed the Caucus during Public Comment #1. The members of the Caucus discussed organizational items for the 2023/2024 Session. Chairperson Kristen Nelson addressed the Caucus to inform the Commissioners that tonight’s Caucus will focus on Standing Committees, the 2023 BOC Calendar, BOC Rules and miscellaneous housekeeping items. Commissioner Woodward addressed the Caucus and stated that the Standing Committees will remain the same for the 2023/2024 session. The dates and times for the Standing Committees will also remain the same. Discussion followed. Commissioner Woodward addressed the Caucus to determine which Standing Committees the Commissioners are interested in serving on. Discussion followed. Legislative Affairs and Government Operations Committee: Nelson, Jackson, Luebs, Johnson and McGillivray. Democratic Caucus Minutes Continued. December 12, 2022 Public Health and Safety Committee: Luebs, Gershenson, Powell, Jackson, Nelson, Cavell and McGillivray. Finance Committee: Markham, Powell, Charles, Raman and Cavell. Economic Development and Infrastructure Committee: Miller, Charles, Johnson, Raman and Markham. Chairperson Kristen Nelson addressed the Caucus regarding leadership of the Standing Committees. She reminded the Commissioners that although she will poll them regarding their leadership choices, an official vote will not take place until the first meeting of the 2023/2024 session. Legislative Affairs and Government Operations Committee: Chair – Nelson, Vice Chair – Jackson. Public Health and Safety Committee: Chair – Luebs. Commissioners Powell and McGillivray were both interested as serving as Vice-Chair. Commissioner Powell and Commissioner McGillivray addressed the Caucus. Discussion followed. Poll results: POWELL: Cavell, Charles, Gershenson, Jackson, Luebs, Markham, Miller, Powell, Woodward, Raman, Johnson. (11) MCGILLIVRAY: McGillivray, Nelson. (2) Commissioner Powell will be nominated as Vice -Chair for the Public Health and Safety Committee. Economic Development and Infrastructure Committee: Vice Chair – Johnson. Commissioners Miller and Charles were both interested in serving as Committee Chair. Commissioner Miller and Commissioner Charles addressed the Caucus. Discussion followed. December 12, 2022 Commissioner Charles will be nominated as Chair for the Economic Development and Infrastructure Committee. Finance Committee: Chair – Markham, Vice Chair – Raman. Commissioner Woodward addressed the Caucus to discuss the needs of the various ad hoc committees, task forces, boards and public appointment opportunities for the 2023/2024 session. Discussion followed. Commissioner Woodward addressed the Caucus to inform the Commissioners that the deadline for Road Commission appointee nominations is December 30, 2022. Commissioner Powell addressed the Caucus regarding the 2023/2024 calendar. Discussion followed. Commissioner Woodward addressed the Caucus to inform the Commissioners that Jim Brady’s in Royal Oak will be hosting a meet and greet for elected officials. Commissioner Cavell addressed the Caucus regarding the “Rail Solidarity Rally” being held in Royal Oak Tuesday, December 13, 2022, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Caucus recessed at 6:52 p.m. until January 12, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. LISA BROWN KRISTEN NELSON Clerk Caucus Chairperson
