The purpose of the grant is to expand the existing Community Policing and Education Services funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) by offering Community Policing and Education Events (CPEE) throughout Oakland County. The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan awarded the Sheriff’s Office $381,488 to purchase two (2) virtual reality training simulators, and one (1) driving simulator with a trailer for the CPEE events (MR #22407). This is a request to accept the second and final allocation of funding to pay for overtime costs to host the community policing and education events. Award Letter and Terms Interim January 26, 2023 RESOLUTION #2022-2382 _ 23-12 Sponsored By: Penny Luebs Sheriff’s Office - - Second Allocation - from the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan for the Community Policing Innovations Initiative Grant Chair and Members of the Board: WHEREAS the Foundation has issued a second allocation in the amount of $164,257 for overtime costs to host the community policing and education events; and WHEREAS the CPEE will allow community members the opportunity to meet and discuss concerns, best practices, and the role of law enforcement in a community setting. The focus of the events will be on cultural awareness, application of the law in diverse communities, and looking for ways to build public trust through transparency and action. The program will encourage open communication and allow the opportunity for reform measures to be discovered. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners accepts the second allocation of grant funding in the amount of $164,257 from the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that acceptance of this grant does not obligate the County to any future commitment and continuation of this program is contingent upon continued future levels of grant funding.
