INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office applied for the Community Policing Innovations Initiative Grant
from the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan in the amount of $698,966.72 (MR
#22089). The purpose of the grant is to expand the existing Community Policing and Education
Services funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services
(COPS) by offering Community Policing and Education Events (CPEE) throughout Oakland County.
The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan awarded the Sheriff’s Office $381,488 to
purchase two (2) virtual reality training simulators, and one (1) driving simulator with a trailer for the
CPEE events (MR #22407).
This is a request to accept the second and final allocation of funding to pay for overtime costs to
host the community policing and education events.

Sheriff’s Office - - Second Allocation - from the Community Foundation for Southeast
Michigan for the Community Policing Innovations Initiative Grant
Chair and Members of the Board:
WHEREAS the Foundation has issued a second allocation in the amount of $164,257 for overtime
costs to host the community policing and education events; and
WHEREAS the CPEE will allow community members the opportunity to meet and discuss concerns,
best practices, and the role of law enforcement in a community setting. The focus of the events will be
on cultural awareness, application of the law in diverse communities, and looking for ways to build
public trust through transparency and action. The program will encourage open communication and
allow the opportunity for reform measures to be discovered.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners accepts
the second allocation of grant funding in the amount of $164,257 from the Community Foundation for
Southeast Michigan.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that acceptance of this grant does not obligate the County to any
future commitment and continuation of this program is contingent upon continued future levels of
grant funding.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED the FY2023 budget is amended as detailed in the attached Schedule
A.

I. Acceptance of Grant
The grant to your organization from the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan is for the explicit
purposes described in the Grant Resolution and is subject to your acceptance of the terms described therein.
To accept the grant and receive the funds, return a signed copy of this "Terms of Grant Agreement" to the
Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan. Please refer to the grant number and title in all
communication concerning the grant.

III. Publicity
We strongly encourage the grantee to publicize the receipt of this grant. Please share a copy of any press
releases and announcements for approval prior to distributing, as well as copies and links of news coverage
that results from press outreach.
IV. Special Provisions
In accepting this grant, the grantee agrees to the following conditions:
1. To use the funds granted solely for the purpose stated.
2. To repay any portion of the amounts granted which is not used for the purpose of the grant.
3. To return any unexpended funds if the grantee loses its exemption from Federal income taxation
as provided under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended (the
“Code”), or (b) as a governmental entity or political subdivision within Section 170 (c) of the Code.
4. To maintain books and records adequate to verify actions related to this grant should this prove
necessary.
5. Pre-approval is needed for any modifications in the approved project budget.
