INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
Section 333.7524 of Public Act 368 of 1978 authorizes courts to distribute property and funds
forfeited through narcotic seizures to participating agencies to be utilized toward the enhancement
of law enforcement efforts related to the Controlled Substances Act. The Prosecutor’s Office has
received forfeiture funds from the reimbursement of expenses associated with forfeiture
proceedings.
The Prosecutor’s Office is requesting $100,000 to be used as follows:
• $10,000 to fund the Commission to Address Gun Violence in Oakland County and support
the implementation of the Commission's recommendations
• $60,000 for prosecutor-specific continuing legal education training from outside agencies
such as the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan (PAAM), the Association of
Prosecuting Attorneys (APA) and the National Association of District Attorneys (NDAA)
• $30,000 for equipment on an as-needed basis (the Prosecutor’s Office identifies, from time-
to-time, equipment or technology that could be used by the Prosecutor’s Office to enhance
law enforcement efforts in compliance with state law. Such technology includes equipment
for the processing and presentation of evidence, including presentation in the courtroom in
front of judges and juries, and presentation for training purposes)
