Motion to approve the one-time appropriation of $10,000 from non-departmental transfers General
Fund Special Projects to the Board of Commissioners General Fund Special Projects line-item
budget for the purpose of sponsoring the 2023 Clawson Fourth of July Festival; further, the FY2023
Budget shall be amended as reflected in the attached Schedule A – Budget Amendment and that
the Oakland County Board of Commissioners approve and authorize the Board Chair to execute the
required Agreement on behalf of Oakland County.

INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence,
with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and
barbecues. The celebration of Independence Day in Clawson is a week-long event hosting a
concert in the park, a kiddie parade and freedom run before July 4, leading to additional excitement
and anticipation for the parade, fair and fireworks on July 4th. The Clawson 4th of July Parade is a
family-oriented event and it has been a tradition since 1933 with the exception of one year during
wartime. Funding of $10,000 is available from the non-departmental transfers General Fund Special
Projects expenditure line item and will be re-appropriated within the Board of Commissioners
General Fund Special Projects expenditure line-item budget for the sponsorship of the 2023
Clawson July 4th Parade.
