September 28. 1966
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Clark at 9:30 a.m. in
Committee Room "A". Auditorium Wings Service Center, Pontiac, Michigan.

Minutes of the meeting of September 15 vie a approved.
Mr. VanWaNatta gave a progress report on the promotional plans for
the millage proposal as follows:
1. The previously discussed tentative arrangements which
would have provided for the printing of one half million
brochures free of charge, could not be concluded.
2. Contact has been made with a small printing company who
will print 200,000 brochures at a cost of $700.00.
3. The advertising farm of Zimmer, Keller and Calvert has
provided a sample layout, and Upon approval, would be
willing to assume the cost of the plate.
4. The UAW-C10 Committee On Political Education has given
approval to the millage proposal of the Parks and Recreation
Commission, and has included it in the platform of that
organization. Approximately 250,000 copies of the platform
will be distributed.
5. The McManus. John and Adams advertising agency will provide
an alternate pamphlet layout from which to choose. Approval
has been obtained for the county to assume the approximate
$200.00 plate cost if necessary.
Discussion ensued as to methods of improving and rearranging the
sample brochure. The following changes were agreed upon:
1. Nanes of the Commission, members should be included, but
placed at the bottom of the last page.
2. The statement of the Huron -Clinton Metropolitan Authority
to the efsect that it has further plans for additional parks
in Oakland County, should be included.

Mr. VanNatta reported that arrangements have been made to
distribute the brochures through the elementary and junior high
schools. The suggestion was ceade that permission be sought to
include.the parochial schools in this activity.
It was agreed that a letter, signed by each member of the
Parks and Recreation Oammission, should be sent to Mr. Lawrence
Mainl-ind, thanking him for his excellent support of the millage
proposal before the Oakland County Board of Supervisors at theme
meeting on September 19, 1966.
The Commission eras informed that color movies of Davisburg
Park have been taken, and will be shown on the television program,
'Weekend. "
There was some discussion relative to the probable necessity
of placing a charge on the use of certain facilities at the proposed
parks, and whether the parks would be open to people from other
counties. Mr. VanNatta cited federal regulations Which provide the
sponsoring governmental unit vrith the regulatory pov,er to charge a
higher rate to non-residents.
The Park Director estimated that approximately $8009003.00
could purchase and develop a 160 acre park, including a golf course
and club house.
The next meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesdays October 26.
The meeting adjourned at 11:15.
