HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 1967.07.26 - 38351PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING ulv 26. 1967 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Frances Clark, at 9:30 a.m, in Committee Room "A", Auditorium Wing, Service Center, Pontiac. COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT: Robert Allen, Velma Austin, John Carey, Frances Clark, Clarence Durbin, Daniel Murphy, Dorothy Olson, Fraser Staman, Daniel Barry. COMMISSION MEMBERS ABSENT: Donald Kalmbach OTHERS PRESENT: Kenneth Van Natta, Director and Joseph Joachim, County Engineer. The minutes of the June 28 and July 18 meetings were approved. Mr. Van Natta read a letter from Mr. Paul Van Roeckel, Highway Engineer, stating that the Road Commission had been approached by other parties interested in purchasing the Mill Pond site adjoining Davisburg Park, and requesting an indication as to the intent of the Parks and Recreation Commission in this regard. Mr. Van Natta noted the Commission appraisal of this property still pending. A tentative approach for $30,000 in matching funds has been made to the Michigan Conservation Department Land and Water Fund. Mr. Van Natta reported agreement among the Agriculture Extension Committee that the proposed 4-H buildings to be erected at Davisburg Park, should, in order to obtain maximum public year round usage, be under the management of the Parks and Recreation Commission. Because of this and the continually broadening scope and responsibilities of the Commission and its director, Mr. Van Natta recommended the addition of an assistant director to his staff. After some discussion, it was moved by Mr. Murphy, supported by Mr. Staman. The position of Assistant Director shall be created, with a base salary of $11,000 per year, using the schedule as established by the Personnel Division of the Oakland County Board of Auditors -in setting up salary range. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m. for a field trip to review a 640 acre estate located in the southern part of Addison Township. Velma Austin Secretary
